Tri-Fi Jazz Trio is Making a New CD
Project by Tri-Fi
Yeeeee haw! On July 11th, 2010 we're going back into the recording studio to make our third self-produced recording as the jazz piano trio, Tri-Fi. It's been more than three years since the last record (sheesh! where does the time go?) and we're long overdue. We're planning another album of original compositions and so we've already been working hard writing and rehearsing. We're really excited about the music and can't wait for you to hear it!
We're older and wiser now, and from our previous two recordings we've learned a few things. For example, we've learned that producing your own recording is a double-edged sword.
As an artist, there's that wonderful feeling of freedom you get when you have the opportunity to create exactly the music you believe in without the compromise of a record company who wants you to fit into a certain mold. There's a lot of love and pride in the recordings, and all the music we create.
Then there's the other side of this metaphorical sword - that it costs money! Holy cow, it costs a big bunch of money! We don't know why these studios, engineers, graphic designers, and printers can't just let us pay them in pizza and beer, but I guess they need to make a living and so the expenses of doing a quality recording add up pretty quick.
We recently discovered Kickstarter, a wonderful resource for self-produced projects of all kinds that allows anyone to pledge their hard-earned money to a project that excites them. So when you pledge to support our recording project on Kickstarter, you get to follow the progress and take pride in the results along with us. How cool is that? It's a warm, fuzzy feeling with some cool perks no matter how much you pledge (just check out the super amazing rewards we've got listed for the different support levels!).
At the heart of our Kickstarter drive is the album pre-order. I mean, come on. You were going to buy the album eventually anyway, right? You were, weren't you?? Well, why not pledge now so:
a) you don't forget, and
b) we don't have to max out our credit cards and borrow from our kids' college funds to make this happen on our own.
And the way this Kickstarter thing works, if you want to help even more with a bigger pledge you'll just get that much more cool stuff - along with one heck of a hearty thank you from us.
THANK YOU!!!

PS > And seriously, check out some of the other cool projects on Kickstarter. There's a lot of wonderful creative folks out there doing wonderful creative things with our support.

Matthew Fries, Phil Palombi and Keith Hall were brought together as the backing trio for jazz vocalist, Curtis Stigers, and toured extensively building up a level of musical communication that has become rare in the jazz world. With Tri-Fi they step into the spotlight and build on this musical chemistry with original compositions, new arrangements, and a vibrant swing in the tradition of the classic jazz piano trio. The result has been rave reviews.
"There is a big difference between a 'band' and musicians who just work together occasionally," explains Hall. "Because we spent so much time together, there is a freedom that is expressed in our music. We always have lots of fun."
Tri-Fi's style has been compared to the music of the Bill Evans Trio, the Oscar Peterson Trio, and modern piano trios of Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea.
Tri-Fi were praised on their self-titled debut album for "the perpetual forward thrust of the music... and their flawless intercommunication" by All About Jazz, and described as infusing "creative writing, fresh arranging and complimentary playing to offer us music that has to be reckoned with" by JazzReview.com.
About their most recent release, Postcards, All Music Guide says, "Tri-Fi is well on their way to incorporating new style and strength to their already potent brand of piano trio music."
Tri-Fi performs at clubs, festivals and colleges in the US and Europe.
