A short featurette about the participation of Half Moon Bay High School Students in the Challenge Day Program.
On January 14th, one hundred students will participate in Half Moon Bay High School's second annual Challenge Day. Challenge Day is a program that is designed to "provide youth and their communities with experiential workshops and programs that demonstrate the possibility of love and connection through the celebration of diversity, truth and full expression."
As part of the school's "Be The Change" effort, a movement to maintain and substantiate the positive effects of the Challenge Day program, a short documentary detailing students' experiences with the program will be produced. It will explore the issues that the school hopes to improve on as well as how these problems are addressed by the students. We will use interviews with student participants, teachers, counselors, and administrators as well as footage from the day of the event. We aim to create a record of the high school's vibrant community and how it embraces and is affected by Challenge Day, as well as create a tool to show the value of the program so it can be continued in years to come.
Production of the project will be a collaboration between a HMBHS junior who hopes to attend film school and an HMBHS alumni, who are working in close conjunction with counselors and Challenge Day leaders. A small film crew of students and alumni will be assembled to assist with shooting. The time and skill necessary to direct, edit, and distribute the project will be donated by the crew.
We need your help with funding in order to obtain the video and audio equipment necessary to ensure a high quality result. Thank you for your support!
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
It can sometimes be difficult to get high school aged students to open up and share their feelings on camera; however, they will be completing a program designed to help them do this.
