Extend beyond the fest with the Screening Room. A screening series, classes, event venue, pro screening facility for filmmakers & more!

The SoCal Film Festival Screening Room and Event Center!

Now entering its eighth year, the SoCal Film Festival in Huntington Beach continues to provide an outlet for independent filmmakers, screenwriters and artists to gather to share in the exhibition and development of art and culture through film and will continue to do so with the development of our Screening Room and Event Center!

What we are doing in 2012 – The SoCal Screening Room (We Need You)!  Our goal is to raise $7,500 for our SoCal Screening Room.  Of course, if we raise more, we can do more.

Join us in launching the long awaited SoCal Screening Room! The SoCal Screening Room will be a mini-theatre (or theater, depending on your spelling preference) professionally furnished for filmmakers to have a theatrical screening option outside of Los Angeles for private and public movie exhibition. Additionally, the Screening Room will host a variety of industry related groups and events in Orange County. We are looking at a number of suitable locations and hope to finalize a location by the end of the year and be up and running by the 2012 festival event.

What does that mean and what will happen there?

Well, a variety of events will take place at the SoCal Screening Room, including:

  • Offering a monthly movie screening series of past and present festival movies;
  • Providing a venue for filmmakers to host private or public screenings of their movie;
  • Providing a venue for filmmakers to do technical checks of their movies in a professional screening environment;
  • Providing a home for the SoCal Film Academy – the festival’s film school offering youth and adult courses in filmmaking, screenwriting, editing, and production;
  • Providing a venue from Orange County and nearby filmmaking and screenwriting discussion groups to regularly meet;
  • Offering a venue where filmmakers can hold auditions, have production meetings, and even have a small sound stage for production!
  • Providing a place where actors can also get involved by easily, inexpensively and quickly getting headshots for their resumes in our always-ready-to-go studio.

Why in Orange County?

There is a huge filmmaking, screenwriting, and entertainment industry population in Orange County, California. However, in most cases, we must travel to LA to get some very basic services not offered in Orange County. Additionally, these services get very expensive in LA. The SoCal Screening Room will be a unique option and opportunity not readily available outside of the Los Angeles area.

About the Festival

The SoCal Film Festival held its first event in 2005, hosting a unique celebration of filmmaking in Orange County’s Huntington Beach. In that time we have screened and celebrated nearly 1,000 movies and screenplays. Additionally, we have held regular community events such as outdoor movie screenings and discussion groups. 2012 will mark the eighth year of the festival. This has been a grassroots festival and organization from the beginning, organized by a high school English teacher who has worked professionally in the entertainment industry for many years (and continues to do so). The festival has longed for the screening room and in 2012, it will happen!

Some Pictures from the past 8 years of the SoCal Film Festival!

Yeah, we have a story to tell.  Let's see if some of the video and pictures below will help us explain our passion, desire and excitement for independent filmmaking!
