"Barrier Island" is the 1st play in a new trilogy -- about the Galvestonians that decided to tough it out through Hurricane Ike.
"Barrier Island" is the 1st play in a new trilogy called “The Galveston Cycle”. About a community of people living in Galveston, Texas awaiting the arrival of one of the most devastating hurricanes to hit the United States since Katrina -- Hurricane Ike. Nominated for the 2009 Weisberger Award (Williamstown Theatre Festival).
"Barrier Island" is being presented by MTWorks from April 30th-May 22nd 2010 at Center Stage, in NYC. For more information about the show or to come see it -- check out MTWorks' website at www.mtworks.org
HOW THE FUNDS WILL BE USED:
MTWorks is asking for $1000 to go towards paying our performers.
Our talented actors work hard to put on a great show and deserve to get paid! We are doing our best to raise money to cover their stipends but we need your help! We have raised 75% of what we promised to pay them but we need $1000 more to cover the total amount.
The cast of "Barrier Island" is made up of MTWorks’ repertory members and emerging NYC based actors that have impressed us with their professionalism, depth, and artistry. Any donation large or small, helps support their incredible efforts!
IF WE RAISE MORE THAN THE AMOUNT ASKED FOR:
Any money made above the amount we ask for will go towards the direct costs of the show. Meaning -- we will use the money to pay the designers, and to pay for the cost of creating the set, lights, costumes, etc. So your donation will help us put on the biggest and best production possible!!
MTWorks was formed in 2006 by 4 theatre artists looking to create new and exciting work that would stand out in the vast expanse of the Off-Off Broadway theater community. We are interested in bringing to stage fresh voices from other regions and presenting them to an audience unfamiliar with their work and the worlds they write about.
What does "MTWorks" stand for? "Maieutic Theatre Works" is taken from the Socratic method of teaching called "maieutics". It also comes from the Greek word "Maieutikos": to act as a midwife.
We've discovered that the kind of people that like to support Kickstarter projects are the same people that we make theater for -- so asking for help from folks like you makes perfect sense!
