This film is set during the frozen nights of a harsh Wisconsin winter... so we need all the help we can get!
To family, friends, and strangers,
I am in need of your good will. This February, in the harsh Wisconsin winter, I will be directing a short film from a screenplay I developed. Over the past three years, even though I have shot and edited projects through a variety of freelance gigs - from band documentaries to political campaign commercials - this will be the first narrative work of my own that I will immerse myself in completely.
Last summer I was the director of photography on a feature film called Will and Testament- a film I would go on to fully edit over the fall of 2011. The experience on it has introduced me to many talented and hard-working film enthusiasts in my small Wisconsin community - people I know I can rely on to help me bring my project to life.
The film is titled, Lovesuck, and it follows Blitts, a young black male looking for a deal. Though he is pleased with his middle-class employment, on this particular winter night, he needs to make some quick change. While trying to convince a radical military veteran that he used to be an able drug dealer, Blitts encounters his ex-girlfriend living a lifestyle dangerously close to his.
All of the elements are in place, the creative obstacles vanquished. I have a script that I am proud of, talented actors, and a shooting schedule lined up for February 2012. I only require a bit of fuel to aid on this journey. I can't wait to execute my vision and share this film with you.
Your charity will help defray the necessary costs of feeding our hardworking crew and cast, as well as subsidizing their payment, location fees, equipment rentals, and bribing law enforcement. Any contribution you make will affect a positive, substantial difference on this production!
Again, I would be so appreciative of anything you can manage. Your kindness and generosity will not be overlooked!
In addition to an online presence, we will push this film out to a wide assortment of film festivals. Getting this film seen by as many eyes is the absolute goal!
So far, I am happy to report that actors, Melissa Freson and Mark Alan Lonteen are on board in pivotal roles. Both have collaborated before with our production team so it will be a lot of fun having them back! Additionally, Jonah B. Taylor, an actor from Chicago will be performing the lead role, Blitts. Finally, veteran Milwaukee talent, John Hoylman, will act in the pivotal role of former Marine sgt, Wade.
While I was writing a feature-film during my time in Chicago, I developed a subplot involving a young black man finding out that his ex-girlfriend had taken on his position in his former gang. Though my own history isn't literally relevant to my character's story, I am still drawn to the struggle of anyone returning to an old environment and encountering familiar problems.
Clearly it's a fight between Make You Feel That Way by Blackalicious and Triumph by the Wu-Tang Clan.
