A one month artist residency to make outdoor sculpture at Clo Visual Arts and Media Workshop in Donegal, Ireland.

My project is an artist residency focused on making outdoor sculpture. The concept is to create sculpture from on-site materials in Ireland.
Many people are familiar with the saying, "think globally, act locally". In our world today, distant people and places are connected like never before. The scale and complexity of interconnection between the 7 billion humans alive now is not often part of our minute to minute awareness. The work I will create will suggest this interconnection.
My application for this residency has been accepted by Clό Visual Art and Media Workshop in Donegal County, Ireland. In exchange for my stay I will make an outdoor sculpture for Clό using vernacular found materials and teach a weekend art class. This project came about through contacts I made at the AKOS artist residency in Yerevan, Armenia 2011.
At Clό I will create a form that relates to an earlier work I made at AKOS. The two constructions are meant to interact at a distance. I call them, “Tele-Objects”. Each form will be imbued with the totemic character and spirit of its specific locale by its use of vernacular materials.
The goal of this Kickstarter campaign is to raise enough money to pay for my travel costs to Clό. Like much of what I create, this is not meant to be a money making trip, nor will it be a vacation. This will be challenging and rewarding work, to scavenge materials from the surrounding bogs, transport them (probably by foot) to my work area and assemble them into an outdoor sculpture, plus teach a weekend art class in a foreign country (Irish/Gaelic is the primary language where I will be), all in four weeks! I feel confident that I can do it based on my last residency experience.
Please make a donation that supports non-commercial art in the world!
Funds raised will go to:
Roundtrip Airfare: Seattle- Dublin $1500
Roundtrip Bus Fare: Dublin- Donegal (via Carrowkeel Neolithic site) $100
Partial board (estimated) $400
Total $2000
Any money raised beyond the above will go toward buying a modern digital camera. With this I will better document my work and the beauty of Donegal, Ireland.
I hope you enjoy the dividends I offer in honor of your support! I will write a blog account of my experience while I’m on my trip you can view it at:

Thanks for your support!

Come with me to the nearly 5000 year old Carrowkeel in County Sligo Ireland to celebrate Midsummer's/ Summer Solstice on 6/20/12! information on Carrowkeel: http://celticways.com/blog/2005/08/hike-around-ancient-carrowkeel.html. The Bricklieve Mountains and their loughs of Key and Arrow form an area that has the densest collection of ancient sites and legends in all of Ireland. They were the inspiration to Lord Of The Rings. The most well known area of the Bricklieve Mountains is Carrowkeel. Within the Carrowkeel boundaries are 14 listed large cairns and both the oldest and largest remains of any stone age settlement in Ireland. The cairns are largely on the tips of the mountains, and can be seen for miles and clearly align with many other land forms and cairns in surrounding counties all visible on a clear day. Thef food, drink and reverent merriment are on me while we explore this amazing place. Join me and the spirits of my (our) ancestors for this once in a lifetime experience. (Donors are responsible for their own travel and living expenses). This is an experience that you will remember for the rest of your life!
