About this project
Ingredients:
(Bread) A Sandwich Technician at a local sub shop has just met a boy. (Bacon) An illegal immigrant is being tried for a murder he doesn't know he committed. (Tomato) Two strangers are waking up naked and hungover on a couch. (Lettuce) A Thai detective is searching for his lost brother. (Mayo) A woman is hurtling through space.
Independently these fixings might mean nothing, but possibly everything.
It is all part of what make us human...or a sandwich.
The stories that make up Sandwich: A Working Title are about connections, missed and made. They're about love and how we go about finding what we think we need: revenge, an escape, or a special someone.
The book also features illustrations from Erin Record.

Sandwich FAQ's (this section will most likely grow as the project progresses)
WHY TRY TO MAKE A BOOK?
I am a writer, which means two things. Firstly, I believe I have stories worth telling, and secondly, I'm doomed to have to wait. Unfortunately, I'm impatient, and this past spring I felt a growing desire to have a physical representation of my work, something bigger than a blog post. I wanted something bound and tangible, something I could distribute and show to prospective literary agents to prove my commitment. I resolved to print a book, not a long one, a collection of short stories. However, part of the appeal of writing is that you don't have to be independently wealthy to do it--It's the cheapest of the Arts. I just didn't have the funds to self-publish anything, and that's sort of where Kickstarter comes in.
WHY KICKSTARTER?
Kickstarter provides me a venue to promote Sandwich: A Working Title and secure funds for publishing a limited number of copies. You can become one of my Backers, helping me print the book. Now, I'm not asking you to give me anything for nothing. There are incentives for helping me reach my pledge of $2,250 (check 'em out on the right hand side).
WHY ERIN RECORD?
I knew I wanted each story to be proceeded by an illustration. I approached my friend, Erin Record, whose style, in my opinion, mirrors the realism and subtly of my own work. I knew that the drawings had to establish a sense of place, I couldn't just throw a stock photo in there and call it a day. I fell in love with Erin's doodles. They were simple but there was a magic to them. So I asked her if she'd be up to the task of giving Sandwich a whole new depth and thankfully she said, Yes.
WHY JUSTIN JOHNSON?
I've worked on creative projects with Justin Johnson for the last 6 years. I'm a big fan of his design and while working with him on ERGO Magazine I witnessed first hand his professionalism. He's a perfectionist. So when the time came to find a person to take my words and make them visually appealing it was sort of a no-brainer. Justin is a talented Graphic Artist and the best man for the job.
WHY MORGAN HOWELL?
It's rare to find someone who actually aspires to be an editor. Usually they are just failed writers. That is not the case with Morgan however, and when she volunteered her services I sensed her love for tearing apart the written word and shaping it back into art. I think she's genuine and critical, and that is what I look for in an editor.
WHEN IS THE DEADLINE?
I have to reach my goal by AUGUST 31st, 2010 @ 11am. If not, then I don't receive any funding--That's right, it's all or nothing. So, this means it's really important you forward this on to family, friends, whoever you think may be willing to help. Spread the word.
