Rockefeller is a short historical science fiction film about a strange, stoic man wandering through a city collecting different items that, on the surface, have no real connection to each other: A quart of motor oil, a sneaker, a train schedule, pieces of glass… Over time we come to learn what these items are for, who he is working for and why he seems compelled by an old picture he carries.
The Man himself is an amalgamation of different eras – big, modernist glasses, an old leather messenger bag; he records his progress into a 70’s-era dictation machine. He also has a tool he uses if people don’t give him what he wants: A little, tin toy robot that glows an ethereal blue that manipulates the people who stare at it into submission.
The Project
Rockefeller is a highly collaborative piece bringing together talented prop makers, costumers, cinematographers and actors - and this is where YOU can make a difference!
Rockefeller is not just a short film. There is a social network component that reveals clues about the story. By playing with the information on the official site, reading Twitter and Facebook posts, the viewer can unravel the mystery of The Man, the items and the motives of his employer.
There will also be additional viral videos that will be released along side the film, such as a newly discovered VHS copy of an old 1980's documentary about a man who appeared out of no where at a New Years Eve party.

Rockefeller is inspired by the broad world of alternate histories - a pedigree of divergent timeline stories like The Difference Engine by William Gibson & Bruce Sterling, the way Christopher Nolan used Nikola Tesla in the world of magic in The Prestige, and Seth Grahame-Smith's the use of the eponymous traits of Abe Lincoln, Vampire Hunter.

This piece, meant for festival use, is not geared toward making money. Rather, this Kickstarter plea is to create a budget to pay for materials and resources. It's to tell a compelling story and make use of an extremely talented pool of people who are passionate about their craft and about creating a story and world no one has seen before.
Funds raised will go towards:
- Production & post-production costs (permits, equipment rental, feeding the crew, fuel, special FX rendering, etc)
- Film festival submission fees
- Marketing kits (posters, press kits, business cards, photo stills, etc.)
- DVD material
NOTE! If we do not meet our goal of $3300, then we receive none of the donations and you will not be charged for your donation. We only keep the raised funds if we succeed, and we must succeed - with your help!
