Update #5: Project funded!

Posted on November 2, 2009

Today we reached our funding goal... and even exceeded slightly. Its exciting to know that now I'll be able to make this documentary without compromising things due to money problems. A special thanks goes out to my executive producers, Brian McCullough and Sam Harrison.

Now, for full disclosure of my plans. I've decided the holidays are a terrible time to shoot a documentary, as travel plans of the various subjects could cause scheduling conflicts. So, I plan on spending the next 2 months preparing and setting everything up for a two week Los Angeles shooting schedule in January/February.

In the meantime, I'll be sending out the copies of my first documentary, as well as the Tetris tips. So we'll figure out the best way for everyone to get me their address.

Thanks again!

-Adam

Update #4: Home Stretch

Posted on October 28, 2009

Hi everyone. There's been some interesting developments in this project. Turns out there are a few more elite Tetris players residing in the Los Angeles area. In fact, I couldn't be luckier in terms of how many fascinating Tetris related stories there are to be documented down there.

In short, I'll now be able to expand the project's focus beyond just Harry and his amazing accomplishment, which was my hope all along. I'm more confident than ever that this film will offer a well-rounded portrayal of this brewing phenomenon of a Tetris elite.

That being said, I really need everyone who's donated so far to do their best to spread the word in these final weeks of fund-raising. We are very close to the 1500 dollar goal, and with a little word-of-mouth, I think we can get it done.

Thanks again everyone.

-Adam

Update #3: Typo!

Posted on September 28, 2009

Damn!

A backer pointed out a typo in the preview. I spelled synaptic, "cynaptic"! What a fool! Now I have to rerender that shot in aftereffects, switch it out in final cut, and rerender and reupload the whole friggin' thing.... it'll be up by the end of the day.

Update #1: First trip to Los Angeles.

Posted on September 1, 2009

Greetings, benefactors!

Just got back from Los Angeles this morning. Finally met Harry in person yesterday and had a great day of shooting. Found an excellent camera person in LA, who randomly turned out to be a retro gamer himself. After some dried out chicken strips and cheese sticks from Jack in the Box, we chatted for a few minutes and he instantly seemed to have a perfect understanding of the project.

Harry was a confident and enthusiastic interview subject, and unsurprisingly had a lot to say on the subject of Tetris. In some ways, his responses took me by surprise, and hopefully after watching all the footage, I'll have some nice follow up queries for next time.

So now the real work begins. The goal is to have a preview complete within the next 2-4 weeks... I think when we get that posted it will be MUCH easier to generate interest, and the project will start to take on a life of its own.

Thanks again,

Adam Cornelius
