Contribute and Change the Game
This is normally where I tell you about the game and how great it is, and how it's stuffed with zombies, blood and shotguns. But I can't tell you everything about the game because your contributions change the game. By contributing you affect the number of game modes, the number of levels and puzzles as well as the amount and diversity of zombies. You can actually be a zombie in this game. I don't mean you can play as a zombie, I literally mean that I'll add your likeness to the game as a zombie. You'll practically be famous. You think a unicorn should fly across the screen on level 2, puzzle 3? Done. You want to design a level? Okay. If you look at the rewards you'll see that every single reward from $1 up shapes the game. Depending on how you choose to contribute, this game will change. Just like a real zombie apocalypse, the more people that get involved the bigger this thing becomes.
About Behead the Undead
Behead the Undead is a zombie themed, physics-based, puzzle game being developed for iOS and Android devices including the Kindle Fire and Nook.
The protagonist of Behead the Undead is a mad scientist whose lover has turned into a zombie. Side note: did you know I can make you the scientist? Check out the rewards section... Anyway, the scientist is trying to find a cure to make his/her lover human again. Your objective is to help the scientist gather research and get revenge on zombies. This revenge and research gathering requires zombie skulls. That’s where you and your razor sharp finger come in. You're job is to chop off zombie heads and land them in vats of acid.
Behead The Undead combines the physics-based mechanics of games like Angry Birds and Cut The Rope with the swipe and slice gameplay of Fruit Ninja. Only instead of a cute and friendly theme like birdies, wide eye'd monsters or fruit, Behead the Undead features zombies, acid and copious amounts of blood. As you can see in the video above, gameplay consists of blasting destructible objects in effort to lead zombies to their doom. At any point you can swipe the screen to send the zombie head flying. Your objective is to land zombie heads in vats of acid.
A unique feature of the game is the unlock code system. For those who remember Mortal Kombat 3's Kombat Codes, unlock codes are similar. Entering an unlock code will produce one of a wide range of effects on the game: zombie blood may turn rainbow colored, it may start snowing in the game, a new puzzle may be revealed... The number of unlock codes that appear in the game will be directly effected by the number of contributors. There's even a reward that lets you choose an unlock mode you want added to the game.
Additional features will include:
- Unbreakable objects that can be dropped and moved to create paths and slingshot zombie heads into acid. Stuff like anvils and bricks.
- Achievements for the iOS versions of the game.
- Stats… Want to know how many heads you've chopped off, how much blood you've spilled, how many skulls you've collected? All those stats and more will be tracked.
- A wide range of zombies, potentially 37 (see rewards).
- Tons of unlock codes, potentially over 400 (see rewards).
- 70 puzzles guaranteed, potentially over 100 (see rewards).
- An in-game "zombie kills memorial." This in-game memorial will feature a tick mark for every contributor (see rewards).
- Lost Zombies References. For fans and members of Lost Zombies, be on the look out for references to the Lost Zombies timeline, including book and sticker references.
Why am I making this game?
I've spent many years as a game player, app developer, designer and zombie enthusiast. Behead The Undead gives me a chance to merge my talents and knowledge to create something I'm excited and passionate about and something I think others will enjoy.
I've got all the physics and game mechanics in place for Behead the Undead. I'm currently designing levels and puzzles. What you see here is still very early in the process. The artwork subject to change, and by change I mean improve. With funding I hope to be able to complete the game by the end of the year.
I've been working in mobile since 2003, designing apps and games for companies and for myself. I have a background in fine arts, design and filmmaking. I love games, movies, horror and technology. In 2008 I co-founded Lost Zombies (SXSW Web Award Winner). Lostzombies.com began as an experiment to create community generated zombie stories and films. Last year we released a community created zombie book called Dead Inside: Do Not Enter. I've most recently been working on iPad games with my 4 year old daughter.
Why Use Kickstarter?
If this project is funded I'll be in a position to focus all my attention on Behead the Undead and get it finished more quickly. Additionally, the funds will also allow me to promote the game. One of the biggest challenges in mobile app and game design is getting your game discovered in the app stores. Funding will provide many more options for promotion. My biggest reason for Kickstarting Behead the Undead is to build interest before launch. I want to know if the idea resonates with people and I want to build a user base before the game goes live. I believe this can be a great game, and by getting interest in the game early I believe it has a much better chance of success. Finally, by using Kick Starter I give contributors the chance to shape the project, which is something that's always interested me.
Please take a close look at the rewards. Each reward has an affect on the game. You literally have the ability to choose what features go into the game based how you contribute. Some of the rewards include physical items. Here’s more information on the physical rewards.
This is the book DEAD INSIDE: Do Not Enter. The book is made up of hand written notes from members of the Lost Zombies community. Each note is written from the perspective of an individual surviving the zombie apocalypse. Certain reward levels will include a signed copy of the book.
