newEar contemporary chamber ensemble takes its innovative and challenging music making to Thailand this summer!
In November, newEar received an invitation to participate as "artists in residence" at the 2011 Thailand International Composition Festival to be held in Chiangmai from July 18 – 22. Because of the travel costs involved in sending our musicians, we are asking our ardent supporters to “kickstart” us with a pledge in any amount and help newEar travel to Thailand this summer!
While there we will give the Southeast Asia premiere of Whispering (a work composed by Narong Prangcharoen and commissioned by newEar in 2008), and present a program which includes compositions of James Mobberley, Mara Gibson, Evan Chambers, Marc Anthony Turnage and Jacob TV as well as brand new works by Thai and Southeast Asian composers. This is an extraordinary opportunity for newEar and Thai music lovers... plus a chance for newEar to expand our audience abroad!
During the week of the Festival, newEar will be working with young composers and performers to give these inquiring minds insight into the nuts-and-bolts process of preparing and performing contemporary music. Master classes for performers and composers alike will be offered. Finally, the week will culminate with the performance of award winners in the 2011 Thailand International Composition Festival Competition, open to composers of all nationalities under the age of 35.
Your dollars will be used directly to help defray the travel costs of the musicians. Please help send newEar to Thailand with your pledge in any amount... THANK YOU!
