Back from the festival
Hello everyone. I just got back to Scotland after an amazing few days at the Redhead Days Festival in The Netherlands. The screening on Friday was great, and I shot about 10 hours of new material. I'm taking a few days off before I start looking at it, but I'm really happy with how everything went and I'm very excited about how the film is going to end. I don't want to say too much about the Festival because I don't want to ruin the film, but I can say that we set a world record for the most redheads in one place when we took the big photo on Sunday. (I'll try to post some video in the next week or two.)
In the meantime, after a week we've raised 20% of our goal, and I'm very grateful for all of the support. Please don't forget to tell your friends about what we are doing.
In closing, I wanted to share a message from Bart Rouwenhorst, the founder and director of the Redhead Days:
"Our screening of the short version of the movie "Being Ginger" was the perfect way to kickoff this year's festival. It was so painfully personal, so honest and open, that the audience of redheads and organizers were touched and moved. It changed the atmosphere and everybody opened up and afterwards people started talking. I mean, really talking, not just telling stories, but talking about what moved them. Scott's courage set an example, which inspired the group of several hundred people to reveal their vulnerable side. It connected the audience. Scott was correct when he said this isn't just a film for redheads. The entire audience, of several hundred people, both redhead and not, were touched. I myself am blonde, and I was very moved.
I really really hope that the movie can be finished before next year's Redhead Days Festival, and I am dreaming of an enormous open air screening on the main market in Breda where thousands of people will be able to experience the movie together.
And from watching Scott this weekend I somehow sense that the movie will have a happy ending. :)
I really hope Scott will be able to finish his film!"

I couldn't agree more with what Bart wrote. I too dream of a huge screening of the final cut of Being Ginger. That would be incredible. So of course I had to pledge. You simply have to finish this wonderful piece of art!
Seeing the short version of Being Ginger and being able to have a conversation with you as well as Lou, made me reconnect with the pain I experienced growing up. Many scars never really heal, but it's times like these that seem to be the most therapeutic. In my case, some old wounds reopened and I had a very rough time Sunday night, Monday and to a lesser extent, today. I guess hearing somebody else pretty much tell my story, was extremely confrontational. But I've noticed that even though reliving the pain is difficult, it also helps in coming to terms with it all. You can't simply ignore the pain, it must first be acknowledged before the wounds can truly heal.
I thank you for taking the time to talk to me. I hope you were still in time to get your mermaid shot and I apologize if you missed it because I claimed so much of your time. I have experienced you as a very pleasant person and also as a very handsome guy. I'm happy I met you and Lou and I hope to see you both again next year. And I bet when I do, you'll be holding hands with a gorgeous lady. Take care, Scott. You rock!
