Views of the largest lake (Caspian Sea, pshaw!) in the world along Michigan's Upper Peninsula coast line.
Lake Superior is the second largest lake in the world. In reality, it's the first but for some reason the Caspian Sea (which doesn't scream LAKE does it?) is considered the largest. Size does matter in this case. I'll be traveling along the southern shore of Lake Superior which is, to put it mildly, not small.
People don't see enough of this gorgeous landscape. In the whole of the UP, we have less people than the city of Minneapolis! Sure, we get tourists but that's still not enough.
Recently, I backed a Kickstarter project that made me rethink multiple things when it comes to my own life.
After reading that other (jealously, more handsome) Kyle's book, I thought: what next? What can I do to make my life tell a better story? I've never tried something like this. I'm not a selfish guy and I figured, I'd like to share what I get to see on a regular basis: the gorgeous views in the Upper Peninsula of Lake Superior. Now, some of you who know Iron Mountain might say that's nowhere close to Lake Superior and you'd be correct. I make a point of taking trips on my motorcycle to visit family, friends, and sometimes just for the pleasure of the road.
I will have the photos marked as to where (roughly) they were taken.
Since I'm planning on taking a trip with my brother anyway, I figured this would be the perfect time to bring along the camera and show those who are interested this gorgeous lakescape. You are not paying for my gas or lodging (I already have trip money set aside). Extra money left over after I send out all of the rewards gets channeled into printing a coffee table picture book (or multiple books) for local businesses who host out-of-towners frequently.
So in the end, it all boils down to this: why? Well, to see what kind of interest there is out there for these photos (and general interest in our Greatest Lake) and if this could be a hobby that ends up paying for itself at some point. I wanted to be a photographer way back when, as I was growing up. This could be something I finally get to do, albeit on a non-professional level.
Here is a link that will show the route traveled: http://goo.gl/maps/GvmtX
There will be no international shipping of sand.
I've always wanted to see a reward like that.
If someone actually picks that reward, I'm going to get myself a new (much better) digital camera. I'd like to get a Canon T4i w/ a couple lenses.
I have absolutely no idea. A postcard a week for a year? And the license plate bracket that fell off the motorcycle between Munising and Strongs? And the rest of the rewards? I'm up for suggestions.
