 “Anna & Eve”(2005-2012) 

This is a large narrative project that I started in 2005. The project dwells between fantasy and documentary. Even though all the scenes are staged, they reveal a real mother – daughter relationship. Anna and Eve were particularly interesting to me when I first met them in 2005, because the boundary between the child and the adult woman was blurred to an unusually high degree. It was often hard to tell who held the power and control between the two, and who was learning the essence of being a human in this world. I was always interested in folk tales as a representation of common knowledge, and their influence on children’s perception of good and bad; of morality. That is why I often apply the frame of a myth or folktale to my photographs. These photographs are not based on particular tales. Rather, they are new myths that represent through phantasmagoric scenes my interpretation of the real relationship of this mother and daughter.

 The Book 

Ever since I realized that Anna & Eve was going to be a long-term project I have been imagining it in a book format. Finally, after 7 years of work I feel that this project is ready to be seen as a book! This book will be an intimate experience: a glance into the magical, yet real, world of a mother and a daughter. You will get to see the journey of a little girl becoming adolescent through dreams, tales and adventures with her mother. This book is not going to be a regular “photography book,” because in addition to about 50 photographs, there will be 10 short texts written by little EVE in 2011 (when she was 10 years old). Her texts are incredibly philosophical, and reveal important questions about life. They are a thread that is woven throughout the book.

 Surprising part of this book is a booklet hidden inside. It will be smaller than the rest of the book, and printed on different paper. In this booklet you will discover “Eve’s Planet,” a text that she wrote in 2009, when she was only 8 years old. This text is also quite philosophical in nature, and reveals Eve's imaginary world, and her vision of her mother. In addition to this text, you will find in the booklet different images of Anna&Eve, that are not part of the main series, and have never been published before.

  Why do I need this much money?

Because I want to make this book beautiful, intimate, and almost a physical experience. In order to make this possible it is important to use high quality, expensive materials.

 There will be:

 - amazing linen cover with embossed text and printed in-laid photograph. 

- beautiful thick paper for the main book (170 g/m2) 

- semi transparent paper for the booklet inside (65 g/m2)

 - About 108 pages + 16 pages in the booklet.

- Intimate size - 23,5 x 22,5 cm
