Update #6: Come Visit Us at Our New Website

Posted on April 20, 2011

MIA:

We have been busy and out of touch since the close of the Haptica project back in March.

Here's what we have been up to...

Setting up an e-commerce website to help us continue to raise the much needed funding for Haptica. Working with an engineering firm on finalizing the Phase 1 technology exploration.  Evaluating potential strategic partnerships with a few people who have reached out to us as a result of all the press/blog exposure Haptica has received.

All very exciting but our progress is still significantly hindered by a lack of funding.  We hope to expedite that in part through t-shirt sales and donations

SHIRTS & WRISTBANDS:

So after several delays getting an e-commerce website up and a few minor setbacks with the t-shirts and wristbands....you can know pick them up online at Haptica's new home.

www.hapticatech.com

Please visit the website and pick up a shirt or just make a donation if you're so inclined. We appreciate your patronage as we continue to work towards developing the Haptica Braille watch.

Thank you!

David

Update #5: Praise & Perseverance

Posted on March 5, 2011

PRAISE:

First off, let me just say THANK YOU to all of you who have not only backed this project but also taken it upon yourselves to share it with others.  It's been an amazing and unique undertaking to say the least. It's also been a great communal experience.

We received some great online press during our first week and other mentions on the web throughout the course of the project. It is impossible to quantify how many people became aware of the project on any given level.  Many people perhaps saw a brief headline, image, or post and moved on.  Others clicked and watched the video while yet others actually made it to the project's page on kickstarter and may have even skimmed over the projects contents.

At the end of the day, 390 of you reached out in an effort to make a difference and for that I am truly grateful.

PERSEVERANCE:

Many people in one form or another have posed the question: What happens now?

Not meeting the goal on Kickstarter is of course an immediate setback, but it's not the end. We're still moving forward(slowly) with our engineering efforts, one phase at a time. In the meantime, I'll continue exploring opportunities to move the Haptica concept forward.

Some of you may have noticed that we are creating a home for Haptica online at www.hapticatech.com. The site is not yet functional but we hope to have things rolling by the middle or end of next week. There, you'll be able to check out the latest news, updates and have the opportunity to continue supporting Haptica if you choose to do so.

I hope you'll join me!

With much gratitude and admiration,

David Chavez

Can you try again on Kickstarter? I think this watch fills a need

Update #4: Power of Ten

Posted on February 28, 2011

4 DAYS LEFT:
Many backers have expressed a legitimate concern that the Haptica project won't reach it's goal by this Thursday. No doubt, that many of you have shared this project via email, even contacting news and social media outlets, etc. as have we. The frustration doesn't come from an inability to share the project so much as a lack of action on the part of those who become aware of it. I will expand on that observation this coming Thursday. In the meantime, consider the following.

POWER OF TEN:
One backer contacted me this morning and pointed out the following:

If all of the current 358 Haptica Backers reached out and committed 10 friends, family etc to pledging at the $25 (+ shipping) level, that would generate approximately $107,400 pushing us just beyond our goal.

358 X 10 X $30($25 + ≥ $5 shipping) = $107,400

(Alternately, committing 5 friends and then each of those 5 committing one additional person.)

The solution seems simple enough and reminded me of the Charles & Ray Eames film, Powers of Ten.

Done. Hopefully I can attract more than 10 for you.
      Good luck!

Update #3: Final Week

Posted on February 25, 2011

FINAL WEEK:
There are 7 days remaining before the project closes. We are making one last push to get the word out via several news media outlets. We're also continuing to share the project with those around us and we hope you are too!

During the final days of this project we have been preparing a home page for Haptica! More about that will be explained in an upcoming post.

COMMUNITY:
Kickstarter has been an interesting experience to say the least. In the process of crowd-sourcing for the much needed Haptica funding, a few in the crowd have sourced back. During the course of the project several people have contacted me for podcast and news paper interviews etc.

Juan Chaparro of Democrathings has shared the following interview on his blog http://blog.democrathings.com. There, among other things, you can find a great interview with Chris Bangle former head of design BMW. Here's the video podcast... http://vimeo.com/19883901

J.J. Meddaugh, one of the AT Guys from blindbargains.com, posted the following interview for their weekly news letter and podcast subscribers. Blindbargains.com is a website dedicated to sourcing the latest deals, and news for the blind and visually impaired. Our conversation can be found here.. http://www.blindbargains.com/audio/110218_haptica.mp3

Finally, here's a quick roundup of a few of the great blogs that covered our project early on.
