Two days to go! Thanks/Show Info/The End of the Obits
In about two days we'll close this Kickstarter campaign and release Before We Die into the world, and in about a week we will play our big record release show, which will also be our last show as a band. So, I figured it a great time to give one last update of thanks and extend one final offer of our premiums to any last-minute pledgers. We've already reached our goal, but taking us a bit over the top surely won't hurt. Let's get to the great folks who donated to help us finance our record.
The Honor Roll: James Voight, Isaac Priestly, Derek Ellsworth, Jessica Devillez, Adam Linden, Jennie Kennedy, Larissa Pickens, Katie Cohen, Janet Shansky, Darla Holtzclaw, Reed Oliver, Aaron Bromberg, Adam Kaye, Phyllis Ivey, Kris Brown, James Gray, Gen Mandola, Brian Wellborn, Shane Whitefield, D. Wright, Elizabeth Taliaferro
The above have our deep gratitude for their support of this project. Some have supported past projects of ours as well, and for that we are so very thankful. We will be contacting anyone who is receiving a premium, asking addresses and other info that may be necessary (i.e., what TV show theme song you want us to record!).
CD Release Show: For those of you in the Austin area, we really hope to see you at our release show for Before We Die. Some of you have follwed the drama of our CD release show. Our original date was cancelled due to a double-booking snafu, but we bounced back and are now rescheduled for Saturday, May 19 at Nomad Bar. Again: We will NOT be playing on Sat. May 12 at Frontier Bar, no matter what the Austin Chronicle may say. We will be playing acoustically for the first time. The singing/lyrics will take center stage in this show, but fear not--wooden music can still rock!
The Future of the Band: After more than five years as a band (even more if you count the time some of us spent under the Late Fees name), we have decided that Sat. May 19--our CD release show--will be our last. Family and work obligations, as well as a desire to persue other creative projects, have led us all to decide to end the band. We have had a great time playing together and are very grateful to all whom have shown us support. However, Austin is a tough town in which to keep a band active, especially when all members work regular day gigs. Some of us will certainly continue to make music together in one manner or another, but Rich & The Obits will cease to be a band after we play this show. Does this seem like a strange way of promoting a new CD that we're really proud of? Sure. But making commercial sense has never really been what this band is about.
Finally, I want to extend my deepest thanks and gratituted to the band, my brothers and sisters through this ride: Dave Wylie, Hunt Wellborn, Lloyd Wright, Elizabeth Ivey, Roz Mandola, Sara Shansky, Neil Kaiser, and Alexei Sefchick. We had way more good times than bad and I love each of these people for all of the dedication and love they put into our music.
So, thanks for the support. We'd love it if y'all could help us spread the word about our third (and final) record by telling your friends and, if you're local, spending our last show with us.
