We are just another hard-working band with demanding day jobs and families trying to eke out some artistic transcendence.
Rich Restaino & The Obits have been together about six years, and we are on the cusp of releasing our third album, Before We Die. We are an eight-piece band, a gang of friends who continue to make music together in spite of busy work schedules, increasing family responsibilities, and a hyper-competetive music scene in Austin, TX. We are a pretty self-contained group and handle most of the recording ourselves. However, we are asking for a bit of help from our friends, families, and fans to help cover some of the production costs this time because we've gotten some great help from true pros. In part, we enlisted the services of a great Austin mixing engineer, Bruce Chandler, who has worked with our buddies World Racketeering Squad among others. Mastering was done by an old high school friend of mine, Mike Wertz at his Little Cheddar Recording Studios in Brooklyn. Both guys are true professionals, and they deserve more than they charged us, but still we must pay them. Then, I'm sure you've noticed the beautiful cover art. Austin artist Joyce DiBona was gracious enough to allow us to use her painting, but rightfully she was paid for this privilege. In addition, there is the cost of actually producing the CDs. We're doing a limited run for starters, and if this campaign is successful, we will certainly do a second run, and if it's really successful, we may actually see our dream of having our record pressed to vinyl.
