Control all of your lights, door locks, security sensors, thermostats, and more from your smartphone or tablet.
SEE YOUR HOME THROUGH PRIZM
Meet the easiest way to manage your entire home with your favorite phone or tablet. Prizm allows you to connect and control light switches, door locks, security sensors, thermostats, IP cameras, and more. The 5 inch touchscreen gives you access to a retro chronograph display, an overview of your home energy use, and a weather station updated in real time. With the Prizm Manager mobile app, you’ll be able to monitor and manage your home from anywhere you are. You’ll also be able to connect new devices, set up scenes and events, and view live camera feeds. Because Prizm is based on one of the world’s most popular home networking standards, it will work with hundreds of devices available from major retailers from the moment you receive it.
Prizm uses Z-Wave - a powerful and widely recognized home networking standard - to communicate with the things in your home. With full Z-Wave support, you’ll get the convenience of being able to expand your system with tons of great products. Just look for the Z-Wave logo.
• Light Switches: Dim lights. Switch them on and off. Set your favorite lighting scenes. Save them. And set the mood at the touch of a button. • Wall Outlets: Have remote access to lighting and appliances plugged in to wall outlets around the house. Switch them on and off. See energy use for compatible devices.
• Door Locks: Securely lock and unlock doors without the need for keys. Let in a friend or repair worker remotely. Check your IP camera feed to see who’s outside, and let them in remotely.
• Shades: Raise and lower shades depending on the time of day, how much light is in the room, or even whether an occupant is present.
• Thermostats: Save energy and funds by connecting your Z-Wave thermostat to Prizm and taking a smarter approach to heating and cooling your home.
• Security Sensors: Receive an instant notification when a door or window is opened. See whether you’ve forgotten to close a door or window.
• Motion Sensors: Turn on lights when an occupant is present. Receive instant notifications when someone comes home or leaves the house.
• Flood and Freeze Sensors: Know when a basement is flooding or a pipe is freezing before it’s too late to prevent costly property damage.
We plan to constantly test new devices, and make sure they work with Prizm just as they should. Since updates will be available online, the Prizm you receive in exchange for your Kickstarter support will always be current.
AN OPEN HARDWARE PLATFORM
With our hardware SDK, developers will be able to connect and control an almost unlimited number of devices. On the rear face of Prizm, you’ll find two USB ports. On Wi-Fi enabled units, we’ll need to use one of those for the wireless module. What the other is used for is completely up to you! A lot of you will already have a good idea about the possibilities. But, for those that don’t, you can connect just about anything that uses serial communications. This could be a serial to wireless transceiver, an LED display, Arduino compatible device, and many, many others.
AN OPEN SOFTWARE PLATFORM
Prizm is equipped with a high-resolution, 5” resistive touchscreen LCD. Out of the box, users can access handy apps for weather, home energy use, and network set up. But we’re also going to make the device’s home screen completely open to outside developers. Using basic web technologies, developers can build interesting apps to customize their Prizm experience, or share their work with others. Want to see updates from those you follow on Twitter on your Prizm home screen? Or a highly customized news feed right on the device itself? We’d love to see what you can come up with!
HISTORY OF THE PROJECT
Basically, the concept for Prizm started with the idea to allow everyone to make their living space more functional, more convenient, and even more secure. We also wanted to build a device that people would want to put out on display - maybe on a kitchen counter, in an entryway, or on a bedside table. To do that, we knew we needed to make the device itself interactive. So, we decided on a touchscreen display and a really fun design.
From there, we started thinking about how people would be using Prizm to manage their homes: probably with a smartphone or tablet most of the time. So, all of the functionality that’s not available on the touchscreen is packed into the mobile app. On the home screen, you can see a quick overview of what’s going on in the house: how many devices are on, how many need your attention, and even a thumbnail view of your cameras.
We’re now at the stage where we have done a lot of the heavy lifting. Our prototypes are ready and working. And we’re looking toward finishing up the product, adding some really cool features, and getting it out to the public.
WHO IS BEHIND THE PROJECT
Prizm is designed and produced by Frostdale, a startup company in the world home automation and energy management. We’re based in Seoul, Korea - in the midst of a lot of really cool technology and innovation - and our team includes natives of three different continents.
Born in Seoul, Korea, Sean went on to study Computer Science at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. His interests in software and hardware engineering are hobbies that translated well into a career. The concept of a comprehensive wireless home hub is one that he has wanted to make a reality for a long time now.
A former mechanical engineer, father, and self-taught software developer, Jake also finds time to snowboard and tinker with high performance audio equipment. He has worked at giant corporations, but feels more comfortable working in close quarters with a talented team.
When he’s not running marathons or finishing top three in swim competitions, B.S. is at the office putting his knowledge of embedded systems design and networking protocols to good use.
A multitalented designer, Jeongnam is a recipient of the prestigious red dot award for product design. Her interests outside the world of professional design include collecting everything from fancy boxes to ornate phone covers. She also enjoys a good horror flick.
Sangmin specializes in building wireless electronics and digital circuits. But when he’s not in the lab, he can probably be found on the field with his soccer team or camping up in the mountains. He’s also a student of world history, and always looking for a good read.
J.H. splits his time among his specialities in hardware design and debugging and linux kernel and device driver development. He’s an avid snowboarder, a fan of concerts and movies, and an occasional pool shark. On why he never got into the social sciences, J.H. says that hardware and software are much easier to understand than people.
A recent graduate in visual communication design, Sujin makes a big contribution to the team. Her passion is in designing mobile applications, and she’s always working on improving the Prizm Manager applications. Apart from work, she enjoys movies and art exhibitions, and is always looking for her next crazy idea.
A long-time resident of Seoul, Joseph is in charge of product awareness. He enjoys traveling whenever possible and connecting with people from all over the world.
WHY HAVE WE CHOSEN TO USE KICKSTARTER
For one thing, making really cool electronics is expensive. We plan to use any funds from the project to finish up our mobile applications, test and improve compatibility with a whole bunch of Z-Wave products, and put the product into production.
Cost aside, Prizm is an imaginative project, which we think can really benefit its users. Yet home control and automation is probably something that the majority of folks (outside of the tech-savvy Kickstarter community) are not aware of. So, we figured this might be a fun way to launch the product, get people talking about it with their family and friends, and build a relationship with the early adopter crowd.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
You’re probably wondering how we’re going to accomplish everything we’ve talked about. Well, we’ll tell you more or less where we’re at now and how we see the project coming along over the next few months.
There are three main components to your Prizm network.
First, your Prizm controller. The Prizm controller can connect, control, manage, and automate all of the switches, sensors, and other Z-Wave devices in the home. We have a fully working prototype, and with your support we’ll be optimizing performance, purchasing components, and setting up for production.
Next, our mobile applications for iOS and Android make it easy for users to manage their connected devices and create scenarios to increase comfort and security, save energy, and more. Our Android app is complete, and the iOS version isn’t far behind. Of course, a few finishing touches are needed, and we’ll be making those over the coming months.
To make everything work together, we have developed a powerful cloud platform. This makes it possible for you to stay connected to your home from anywhere in the world, to stream live videos of the kids arriving home from school to your mobile phone, and keep track of how much energy you’re using. Again, we’re just about there, and will be dedicating ourselves to completing this component of the system over the next three months or so.
Overall, our team has a lot of experience in the design and manufacture of quality electronics. We do all of our design, tooling, and prototyping in-house. For actual mass production, we will be using a trusted manufacturing partner. We've worked with this facility before to produce our award-winning wireless lighting controls. (See: http://goo.gl/XcdMO) So, we know that they'll deliver a quality build.
Finally, we’re confident that we’ll be able to get your reward package to you on schedule. If you’re not convinced, get in touch with us.

We're also working to get the iOS version out there as soon as possible.
Sometime later, a Windows Phone app is also a possibility. But there are no definite plans to launch a Windows Phone app as of right now.
Yes. There will be multiple versions of the device available.
We will be able to ship US, European, and Australian frequency devices.
If you're unsure of whether Prizm will work in your region or country, just send us a private message and we'll get back to you as fast as possible.
So, we've heard from a few backers that are wondering what devices they can use with Prizm.
In short, all Z-Wave products should work together without any complicated set up for the user. There are now quite a few - more than 700 - of these products, which is really the main reason we were so interested in working with this standard.
Just for good measure, we're ordering a lot of the popular devices and testing them with Prizm to make sure everything is working perfectly. It would be hard to provide a complete list here, but the following are just a few favorites among our team.
- Aeon Labs Sensors, Multisensors, Smart Energy Switch, and the Smart Energy Illuminator
- Fortrezz Sirens
- Frostdale switches and dimmers, of course
- Kwikset Smart Code doorlocks
- Intermatic Scene Controllers
Again, these are just a few favorites. But hopefully this list helps to give an idea of what's possible.
Remember, all of the reward packs also come with at least one device to get you started.
