About this project

Most Americans are aware of the BP oil spill and know that we are in the midst of a crisis, but many of us still have a lot of unanswered questions and feel helpless. What can we do to improve the situation? What is real and what is not? What information is being hidden from us? What is really going on down there? And what is to come?

This documentary and accompanying photo series will take place in New Orleans and on the surrounding shorelines.

News coverage of the spill has reported frightening predictions including death to all ocean bottom marine life and even a potential tidal wave caused by an underwater methane explosion; people have reacted with fear for the future and frustration that more is not being done to prevent catastrophe.

This documentary will focus on talking to the people of New Orleans who are currently being directly effected by this catastrophe, including small business owners, local artists and performers, long-time residents, and volunteers who are working to clean up the spill.

We are aware that the oil spill is getting a lot of coverage, but the media is not giving us the full picture. We are on no one’s payroll. We have nothing to hide, and we have no reason to cover up the truth.

We are simply a real-life couple who are passionate about environmental issues and the human condition. We are compelled to find gripping stories of human triumph in the face of tragedy and tell them. We are driven to get information that others may have missed.

Alex, a photographer, photographed New Orleans and documented the people and environmental devastation 6 months after Hurricane Katrina. Alex was impressed and inspired by the people of New Orleans, yet shocked with the lack of government involvement during Katrina. Thus, the handling of the oil spill appears to be a case of history repeating itself. Alex is a graduate of NYC’s School of Visual Arts and has photographed for Rolling Stone and Impose Magazine, among others.

Jessica Delfino is a critically acclaimed comedic musician who has appeared on Good Morning America, Fox News, PBS, the Sundance Channel and more. Jessica has traveled the world performing her satirical music, which thinly (and not so thinly) veils feminist and activist messages. Her work has been called "Funny and smart" by Thurston Moore in Arthur Magazine, "Stellar" by the New York Times, "Legendary" by The L Magazine, and the Huffington Post described her work as "smart, socially aware comedy," In recent months, Jessica has been participating in activist events against BP, even landing an interview with AP which put a quote of hers on the front of MichaelMoore.com.

Together, we are going to New Orleans to cover the BP oil spill as honestly as possible, and to try to make sense of this devastating ordeal. We plan and hope to come back with some real answers to some of our own questions, as well as yours.
