Synopsis:

Every July 4th for the past 50 years our small hometown in Pennsylvania has held an annual turtle race – a fun event that sounds like something from a Mark Twain story. But this year the state outlawed collecting turtles from the wild because they’re becoming endangered. It’s a fun and funny opportunity to see what happens when tradition and environmental issues collide.
Shown from the uniquely insightful, candid and often hilarious perspective of children, Turtle Derby gives voice to the turtle - a slow, silent, unassuming symbol of wisdom - and reveals that both children and turtles have a lot to teach us.

About Us
Todd Bieber – Co-Director/Producer
Todd writes and directs videos - mostly comedy and documentary, or some combination of the two. He is currently Director of Content and Production for UCB Comedy. Previous to this he worked at the Onion News Networks during their Peabody Award Winning year. One time Todd found a role of film in Brooklyn that led him on a worldwide search for the owner. He documented his experience and TIME Magazine called it “Youtube’s Greatest Adventure” and ABC News called him a “real life international man of mystery.” His work has been featured in several film festivals including Sundance, SXSW, Tribeca, and AFI. His video/film work has been watched over 25 million times and has been featured on New York Times' website, Entertainment Weekly's website, Huffington Post, and his Mom's Facebook Wall.
Juliana Brafa – Co-Director/Producer
By day, Juliana works at a holistic nutrition school in NYC. She also writes, directs, and produces videos, and her work has been featured at Sundance, SXSW, Tribeca, and AFI film festivals. Most recently you might recognize her from the online viral video series, Brooklyn Found Film, or from the Vigilante Gardener on Youtube.

YES! You can also donate to the film in another person’s name. To do this, just proceed with the normal donation process in your name (this is for billing purposes). After our fundraising deadline, we will send you a message that will ask you for your t-shirt size, name of the person you want your donation to be in, address, and other important information. Please just make sure to reply and tell us who you would like to receive the award or be named for the donation.

We want to get you your reward a soon as possible. Once the project is funded and the deadline is over, you will begin to see the effects of your contribution. After funding is complete, we will contact you regarding T-shirt size and shipping address.

We’re working on it! There are many steps to go and we intend to take every one. There’s editing, music, festivals and more! We hope this film will be out sometime by the end of 2011 to the winter of 2012.

After you’ve donated, you’ll receive a message from the filmmakers. Please reply as soon as possible. In that message we’ll ask that you provide us with all relevant information such as your T-shirt size, address, etc.

Absolutely! (Thanks for your generosity!) If you want to change your incentive reward by increasing your pledge amount, just sign into your Kickstarter account. Go to our campaign page, the green “Back This Project” button is now a blue “Manage Your Donation” button. Click it and you can enter a new amount and choose a new incentive.

ABSOLUTELY! $12,000 is just A PART of our overall budget and Kickstarter allows you to raise as much money as our supporters offer to give before the deadline. Raising more than our Kickstarter goal would just mean more ability for us, the filmmakers, to spread the word about our film, hold screenings and make the film the best that it can be!

We have over 100 hours of footage and are raising funds to complete post-production (editing the footage, sound mixing, etc.) so that we can release the finished film!
