About this project
Prodigy is a short film about a girl's flights of imagination at a violin lesson. The girl's mother is hoping that music lessons will get the girl into an exclusive school, but the girl has other ideas. This is a story about how a true love of music, regardless of the musician's talents, can make our hearts soar like a bird.
Our Prodigy team includes family and friends along with faculty and students from TC3, our local SUNY community college. Judy Hyman, an Emmy award-winning violinist, is composing the score. Judy is the founding member of The Horse Flies, a group featured on MTV, Prairie Home Companion, All Things Considered, and World Cafe. Our DP, Zack Wilson, is a filmmaker and photographer with a focus on world issues, fiction narrative, and new media distribution. We're shooting this summer in beautiful upstate New York, in Newfield and at Taughannock State Park in Trumansburg.

Prodigy is Lisa Ford's second short film. Her first short, The Teacher, screened at the Buffalo Niagara Film Festival, the SAG Foundation Short Film Showcase in NYC, and NewFilmmakers at Anthology Film Archives in NYC. Lisa's screenplays have earned a finalist placement in the Austin Heart of Film Festival, and semifinalist placements in the AMPAS Nicholl Screenwriting Fellowship and Disney/ABC Fellowship. Lisa teaches screenwriting and academic writing at Tompkins Cortland Community College in upstate New York.
