To chronicle and preserve the lives and major contributions of Legendary Performers and Artists on all rungs of the ladder of success.
“Legends Among Us” will be an interactive film project with an accompanying website which chronicles and explores the lives, aspirations and cultural influences of living legends in music and the arts.
Before we get into the details of the project, I want to tell a story of how I was inspired to create this lasting documentary.
My mother was a child prodigy; at the age of 17 she was an accomplished concert pianist, performing with the Chicago Symphony and touring. When she became a wife and mother and raised 5 children, she taught piano endlessly to make ends meet, during my childhood. After my parents divorced, my mother performed at local restaurants and raised me, her youngest, by utilizing her talent alone.
My dream as a kid was to make a 'record' of her music so that she could enjoy some of the fame she deserved for her years of effort and her amazing talent. Unfortunately, by the time I worked my way up in the business to have a recording studio of my own, my mother had fallen and broken her hand and was unable to play. When she passed away in 2005, I only had the memory of her outstanding talent and performances.
I thought, "How can I work to preserve this talent that goes into the ether, that we never see again when a person leaves the planet?". I came up with the idea to create literally a catalog of performances, biographies, and memories specific to as many individuals who worked so hard at their craft and contributed to the art-form. This is the genesis of LEGENDS AMONG US.
LEGENDS AMONG US
It is said that nothing on Earth is new, just rediscovered. Yet, every art form has a genesis in modern culture, and so it grows and matures and rediscovers itself many times over.
Most of our modern legends can trace their work to an influence, or several influences, which elevated them to new levels of sophistication. Whether by subtle interpretation or by opening huge new frontiers for others, legends have a unique opportunity to leave a lasting impact on the art form.
So many amazing talents are quickly forgotten. Their struggles, their hopes and dreams, their countless hours of hard work and dedication to their craft sometimes completely go undocumented, and are lost to the ages.
Legends exist on all rungs of the ladder of success. Those on the higher rungs know well that success is fleeting, and the wisest know to be careful how they treat people on the way up, because they might meet them again on the way down.
In this documentary, we have chosen compelling legendary artists within each rung of the ladder of success, analyzing each individual’s contribution to the art form, how it has grown and become unique from impetus to interpretation, how it blends with other art forms, and lastly, the influence it has made on others and on the art form itself. Our hope is to foster a greater understanding of the art form itself, while preserving each individual’s contribution to the greater good, thereby insuring a lasting impact that will not be quickly forgotten.
In addition, a powerful, interactive website will trace each identified influence to it’s genesis, as well as to provide a living biography of each legend we highlight.
We have spent years developing our craft, piece by piece building a state-of-the-art audio/video editing facility in order to create projects that mean something; projects with lasting value. Legends Among Us will be a growing archive of important videographies of amazing artists and performers. We're not asking for a huge amount of money; just the minimum to create and complete the project after a huge investment on our part. Please join us in raising the funds we need to create this essential project!
WHO ARE OUR LEGENDS?
The beauty of this project is that we will expand it as time goes by to include hundreds, even thousands of true legends who have made an impact on lives through their artistry. Our target group of 100 includes major stars who have had hit records, Grammy-winning performers who made an impact on their craft, and amazing performers you may not have yet heard of, but who have touched lives and educated others with their gifts.
