Recent West Coast arrival and friends try to navigate the choppy waters of single life in Vancouver.
Oh yea, you're making an online series? What's it called?
Single & Dating In Vancouver: "Oh. My. God.", "No way", "Is it a horror?" "I gotta see this!"
These are just a fraction of the responses ilicited when inquiring minds ask what our production is called.
What is Single & Dating In Vancouver?
“Single & Dating In Vancouver” is not a typical 5 to 10 minute Webseries, nor is it a reality show, it's a full-fledged 22-25 minute, scripted comedic online series that not only features the highlights (and lowlights) of single life in Vancouver, but also showcases the very distinct courtship nuances and idiosyncracies that make Vancouver’s dating scene unique - from commitment-shy men arriving for dates in a hoodie, to seemingly unapproachable, uber-picky women avoiding all eye contact on the street. View us on IMDB
Vancouver has been championed as one of the most beautiful cities in the world to live in. This ideally located metropolitan centre is bordered by the stunning Cascadia Mountain Range, surrounded by lush rain forests, and has bragging rights to one of the most temperate climates in the country. But is all well in paradise? Vancouver is also known for its 'cliquey' culture, cooler-than-you hipsters, and unapproachable women. You don't have to take our word for it, just ask anyone who's spent any time here. Even the mere mention of our show's title, "Single & Dating In Vancouver", evokes exasperated sighs, polarized opinions and heated debates when we poll our target audience.
Inspired in part on true events, our series follows the antics of four friends as they navigate the choppy waters of single life in Vancouver.
Our goal is to complete our first season consisting of 6 episodes by December in addition to submitting our production to the BC Film Awards (The Leo's) as well as other award shows and film festivals.
Where we're at...
We have just completed filming our 3rd episode and now must raise funds in order to resume filming and complete our last 3. So far, we've shot at some pretty darn great locations including Ginger62, The Morrissey Pub, Raw Canvas, Moksha Yoga East Vancouver and some great private residences.
During our Kickstarter campaign, we will be making final edits to our existing episodes in preparation to launch them at the end of the month.
Do we have an audience?
More than we have imagined. Since we released our first official trailer at the end of September, the outpour of public support has been overwhelming and nothing less than inspirational for all of us who have dedicated ourselves to this project and have been donating our time to it since early May of this year.
What we need - Funding
The major obstacle impeding us from continuing to tell our story, is funding. I have personally funded two episodes, with an additional one funded through previous crowd funding in addition to a fundraising event... I believe I've just set the Guiness World record for most uses of the word "funding" in a single paragraph. Alas...
Proper funding would enable us to:
- Rent lighting equipment
- Rent camera gear
- Successfully lock down locations & pay liasons so that we have the amount of time to properly shoot scenes
- Pay for various permits
- Feed crew
- Pay Union Performers
- Per diams for our dedicated crew
We have done so much with so little, imagine what we could do if we had access to appropriate funds. Every dollar contributed to our production enables us to bring you better entertainment.
On behalf of everyone here on Team SADinVAN, we thank you for your support and look forward to sharing our series with you.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
I believe our biggest risk is behind us: Forming a solid crew and creating a viable product. We've not only successfully completed our pilot, but two subsequent episodes as well. Our machine is in motion, and as previously mentioned, the outpour of support from all who see our trailer is fueling us to create more, which we can do, with your support.
During the filming of our first episodes, we have forged strong and professional relationships with the local performer's union, the establishments in which we have already shot, the actors with whom we've had on set, and of course, created a strong, dedicated team that will do whatever it takes to ensure the success of our show.
As with any production or team, you're only as good as the sum of your parts. In production, including myself we have co-producer Jane Avery who works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure we are well prepared before heading into shoot days. Combine this, with our merry crew (who I can't speak highly enough about), who are there with us in the trenches, day in and day out, with no pay, creating our story that we want to bring to you.
There is no challenge we can't handle.
