About this project
Gay for Eagles is a show of contemporary fiber art inspired by the work of Alexandra J. Walters. Curator Drucilla Pettibone has worked with established and emerging fiber artists to put together a group exhibition which will showcase new work that explores issues of war and peace, gender and sexuality. More details and participating artists are here.
The show will be held at Hotel Hadley Studios, an artists' collective, gallery and studios housed in a Victorian hotel and located in the historic town of Siler City, North Carolina. North Carolina has a rich history of fiber art, and Siler City is a former mill town, and yet very little contemporary stitching has been exhibited in this area.
This show will provide an opportunity to promote fiber art, build community, and create a dialogue that spans various ages, classes, cultures and political affiliations.
Donations will fund the expenses associated with opening reception on April 15, 2011 such as food, drinks and live music. They will also be used for the advertising and promotion of the show locally and online. If funds are left over, they will be used to fund future fiber art shows at the Hotel Hadley Studios.
