Update #11: The Aspens Is Over, Documentary Work Resumes
Dear Supporters, Friends, and Collaborators,
A brief review:
In October and November, representatives of Research Club and Grand Detour got to meet amazing, self-starting, community-supported programs and projects in four cities in four different countries. Your support made this happen.
When we got back to Portland, we had the opportunity to put the ideas and research that came out of the trip into immediate practice as part of The Settlement project. This spurred the formation of The Aspens. It consumed the time that we were planning to work on the documentary of our trip, but provided many great opportunities to manifest the lessons we learned on the trip, and to discuss them directly with a broader audience than the ones that traditionally visit art spaces. It was an unexpected delay, but one that will be well worth it in the end.
That project has now ended, so we're returning to the production of the promised documentary. I'm just writing to thank everyone for their patience and support, and to assure you that a book and/or DVD will one day arrive in your mailbox. Limited-edition Heavy Meta merchandise will arrive even sooner. As the documentary develops, you'll be able to track its progress at the Heavy Meta blog and on The Aspens.
Being part of The Aspens was very beneficial to the mission and ideas behind Heavy Meta, and has left Research Club stronger and smarter. Exciting new things are on their way.

Update #8: Stage 2 begins -- Directory of groups and artists now online
Now that we've returned from the trip, we're compiling all the information, lessons, and research we gathered from the many amazing people and groups we met and interviewed on the way. The first step is to create a directory of all the groups we contacted as part of Heavy Meta, which is now on the main Heavy Meta page We will be adding video interviews and presentations and more detailed profile information to this list on an ongoing basis. The directory has contact information and lessons and recipes from many of the listed groups. Going forward, we'll add more groups from beyond the tour, and solicit lessons and recipes from the groups who haven't entered them yet.
For our beloved backers -- we've finally sent out all the postcards. Some of you have already gotten them, but a group illness at the end of the trip has delayed them to others. We do apologize. HM-themed merchandise and more rewards are on their way as well. Stay tuned!
Best,
Ním @ Research Club

Research Club is a community-supported think-tank. That means that we create opportunities for members of the community to share the things they know and care about with other inquisitive people. Our mission is to foster the exchange of ideas across many communities and to find ways that those communities can both support and benefit from their most passionate members. We feel that every active mind produces a body of research as it tries to satisfy its curiosity. It is our goal to capture and transmit that research to an interdisciplinary audience.
