“The Customizer” Design your own custom BATTLE BLOK. Not only will you receive the complete $185 set, you will be able to create your own custom BLOK. The custom BLOK will be designed by you, and we will work with you to create the molds and masters. Then once it’s complete we will send you 20 copies of your design. Your design will also go on sale on our future online store with a designed by credit in your name. Why this reward is so expensive: $185 covers your initial set of BATTLE BLOKX, $300 goes to creating and casting the masters, then molding the copies of the custom BLOKX you designed, then $15 will go to shipping you your 20 copies. There are of course limitations to what can be formed through the BATTLE BLOKX molding process, and you need to keep those in mind when thinking about becoming a backer at this level. BLOKX cannot have any overhangs, deep undercuts, or thick texture, the BLOK must be able to mold and unmold without any vertical restriction. Finally your design will have to fit within a 3.5 inch x 3.5 inch x 2 inch box. Remember this is not a profit sharing offer or any other kind of future dividends offer, aside from your BLOKX all you will receive is a designer credit, on our future web store. I'm guessing the modern/sci-fi look was based on personal interests. I bet if the BLOCKX had a castle/dungeon/coblestone look, people who play Dungeons and Dragons or similar games would be all over this. I have no idea if that sort of detail would increase costs to be prohibitive or if even possible with the hardware you were looking at, though.

I'm fairly sure we won't get funded at this point, but we're working on experimenting with other materials (resin, hard foam, even concrete) that will be cheaper to get started with, and won't require 2 tons of machinery.

I've got my fingers crossed for you guys, I sure hope you make it! I agree in principle with Warren, you need some physical prototypes. But, I don't want to see something from a 3D printer, that doesn't tell me anything about the final materials. I would like to see some of the actual material that the blox will be made of.
If you don't get funded please keep me on your mailing list.

Thanks for the advice it's really helpful, and I think if we could have afforded the printer before launch it would have helped a lot.
While I doubt we'll reach our goal we won't give up, but it may be some months before we try again.

Unfortunately I don't think your going to make it this project, but I think this is a great idea, and want to encourage you to try again in the future. My suggesting is that you really need some prototypes to show off. I don't know if it would be enough to make the $30K goal but I am certain you would have a lot more support if you had some physical prototypes to show off.
Maybe you need to take a bit of a risk and show your backing yourselves by forking out for the 3D printer to make the originals. Once you have these you would have much more confidence from backers in your final product.

We're not including any method for that at this time (to keep cost low), but there are a lot of low cost options, like: small binder clips, or even regular paper clips, but the best option is probably some small strong magnets. This is also in our FAQ.

If I have a 2 x 2 grid of the standard piece, is there any sort of interlocking feature or device to keep them from moving around?
