Feature length documentary on the history, culture and fishery of the Elk River, all 195 miles from Tennessee to The Tennessee.
The Elk River: From Tennessee to The Tennessee documentary is a recent project idea of mine but it is one I was born to complete. With video cameras and fly rods in hand my crew and I will hike, wade, float, fish and film all 195 river miles of the Elk.
The river starts off as a small trickle in rural Tennessee and ends up as a major tributary of the Tennessee River. Mostly flowing through the countryside it provides irrigation for many agricultural operations and has been the lifeblood for the inhabitants of the Elk River Valley for centuries. As we make our way downstream we will chronicle not only life in the river but also around the river. Interviews with local farmers, businessmen and other residents of the communities that pepper the countryside throughout the Elk River Valley will illustrate the flavor and heart of this beautiful region.
We will take a historical look at projects in and around the river including the impoundment of Woods Reservoir and Tims Ford and their impact on the region and on the fishery. We will show the transition of the fishery from a tiny cold mountain stream into two large impoundments; then into a fine tailwater trout fishery and finally into a warm water fishery with a staggering diversity.
This important project will shine light on a region often overlooked. Having worked as a fly fishing guide in Nashville for over a decade I have made many contacts in the entertainment industry and have reached out for hands on guidance. Response has been overwhelmingly positive and although a project of this size is daunting. Requiring weeks of filming with a full crew and unknown hours of editing the physical support of my friends in Nashville and the monetary support of my Kickstarter friends will offer people from all over the world the opportunity to discover this truly wonderful place.

I am especially excited about Nashville native and world class artist A.D. Maddox supporting my project and allowing me to utilize one of her original paintings.
