A fast playing card driven board game by the proven team at StrataMax Games.
"Sheepdogs of Pendleton Hill is a fun, fast-paced board game from Stratamax Games, the designers of the critically acclaimed Tammany Hall, as well as Let's Take a Hike, Days of Steam and Credit Mobilier. Like our other games, Sheepdogs is a game with simple straightforward rules and a relatively short playtime, but with deep strategy, tense decisions and high player interaction.
In Sheepdogs you take on the role of the shepherd's trusted sheepdog! It's up to you to help guide your flock up the peaks of Pendleton Hill making sure the wolf doesn't nab one of your sheep. You could always avoid the wolf, or you could just distract him with an opponent's sheep. The choice is yours!
Sheepdog's of Pendleton Hill is a tense game where every turn you have an important decision to make. Will you help your own flock or will you try to hinder your opponents? On your turn you can decide to work towards moving your own flock up the hill, or you could "help" your opponent by doing "helpful" things like moving their sheep towards the wolf, or placing one of their shepherds at the base of Pendleton Hill, making it hard for their sheep to reach the highest scoring pastures at the top of the hill. It is the balance of scoring for yourself and defending against opponents' scoring and manipulating board position that gives Sheepdogs a unique flavor.
Our design theory at Stratamax games is simple. You don't have to have a rulebook the size of a novella to make a great game. A great game is about making tense strategic decisions, not remembering 20 pages worth of rules and exceptions to those rules. We believe in creating games with high player interaction. Games are a social experience, and we believe that there is more fun to be had in an evening of matching wits with your friends than there is in figuring out the optimal strategy for beating a game that has a solution.
Our design philosophy has been rewarded with the critical praise we have received for our past designs. Our designs have been called "a fantastically fun game of matching wits" (UndeadViking), "Worthy of the biggest companies out there" (the Dice Tower), "good for the whole family" (Board to Death), "a very fun [...] game with a good play time and wonderful artwork." (Will Hamilton) and "one of the most mechanically brilliant games that I've played where deep strategy springs from a small choice set." (Giant Fire Breathing Robot)
Stratamax Games are the designers of many high quality board games that have been entertaining players worldwide for decades. Some of our better known designs are the train game Days of Steam from Valley Games, the family friendly Let's take a Hike and the game of political backstabbing: Tammany Hall.

Although it's a much lighter game than Tammany Hall, Sheepdogs will similarly appeal to gamers who like simple rules and a healthy amount of interaction. It’s smart, fast-paced, nicely themed and it looks like the final version will be quite attractive. If all that sounds like your cup of tea, then don’t delay

Before Origins, I told everyone Stratamax had designed one of my favorite games ever in Tammany Hall. After Origins, I can say they have designed two of my favorite games. Sheepdogs is a great game, and it needs to be printed. It’s up on kickstarter now, the artwork is still a work in progress, but I’m telling you this game is worth your time.
Cartrunk Entertainment "There’s a lot in this game for people to enjoy and I think it will work with several (if not all) levels of gamers."
Sheepdogs of Pendleton Hill is a thrilling game where you have to balance choosing to advance your own cause, or choosing to set your opponents back. We are sure this is a game you will love, and you can check out a draft copy of the rulebook below.
The goal in Sheepdogs is to move your sheep as high up the hill as possible before they meet one of your shepherds. Once a sheep meets a matching shepherd they both come home and you score the points for that pasture.
The higher up Pendleton Hill the more points they will score.
In Sheepdogs you play cards to take actions. The actions are very simple; place a shepherd in one of the pastures on the hill, place a sheep into a flock at the base of the hill, move a flock up the hill, or move the wolf. But the decisions are tough! On your turn you have the option of helping yourself or "helping" your opponents. Do you spend your turn to advance your own cause, or do you use your turn to try and hinder your opponents.
Do you move a flock containing your sheep up the hill, or do you "help" an opponent by moving a flock to where they have a low scoring shepherd, sending his sheep home and preventing it from reaching the higher scoring pastures at the top of the hill?
Sheepdogs is easy to learn and fast to play but requires thoughtful strategy and provides for a large amount of player interaction.
It really is the fluffy game with bite!
Despite having several high quality games, we are still an extremely small team of 3 game designers who are mostly funding our games out of pocket. It's great when a publisher decides to pick up one of our games, but the small initial print runs that we do are expensive.
What we are hoping to do with this Kickstarter is help pay some of those up front costs for the printing of the game so that we can deliver them at Essen 2012. Sheepdogs is a unique game that we know player's are going to love, and we want to share this game with the world at Essen 2012!
If you are going to be at Essen 2012 or have a friend that can pick the game up for you, shipping is FREE! This is a great opportunity for European backers to get free shipping on a Kickstarter board game!
If you are in the US or Europe and need the game mailed to you, shipping is going to cost $20 dollars, and $30 dollars to Canada. This leaves the game in line with the costs for other Kickstarter projects that include free shipping. For the rest of the world, send us a message so we can get a shipping quote to you.
Stratamax Games is easy to get a hold of online. We're always on BGG, and can be reached via our homepage and Facebook.
