Photography project to capture the absolute best of California's natural landscapes and mankind's impact on them past and present.
I am looking to put together an exhibition of the diverse landscapes that make up the state of California. On May 25th I am leaving from my home in Orlando, FL and flying into Los Angeles. From there I intend to make a three week journey around the state working my way through the many beautiful natural areas that California has to offer. From low deserts to high mountains I am going to capture a wide variety of scenes that reveal the absolute wonder that exists in this region of the country.
Throughout this trip I intend to visit most of the major national parks in California as well as many more obscure locations in between. Yosemite, Joshua Tree, Death Valley, Sequoia, Mono Lake, and the Alabama Hills are just a sampling of the locations on my itinerary. In general, I do not make definite plans for my photographic journeys, just roughly sketched out routes that can be modified if needed to place me in ideal photographic terrain and weather.
I always carry two cameras when I am out in the Field. One camera is used for normal color photography and the other is a modified DSLR that shots in infrared. This infrared camera allows for some fresh and unique perspectives on some of the more often photographed areas that I will be visiting.
I intend to exhibit the images resulting from this expedition at a variety of art shows this coming fall and spring. Longer term goals include return trips to the state to build a body of work that is worthy of compiling into a book.
The goal of my landscape photography in general is to inspire an interest in the natural world for those that cannot or will not go to experience it for themselves. Through this I hope to show the fragile nature of our environment and what exactly we will lose if we do not make efforts to conserve it for future generations.
The money raised through Kickstarter will go to offset my travel expenses, as well as to help fund the preparation of the images for exhibition.
