SIDEKICKS! is a new rock musical about best friends Tim and Jason, once superhero sidekicks, now "retired" in their old age (late 20s) and running a comic book store. But when danger threatens the city, it is up to them to save the day. Do they have what it takes?
SIDEKICKS! A Musical is being performed as a reading at the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) this July. The funds we raise here will cover the cost of mounting this production and taking the next leap on the incredible journey to getting this show fully produced. Current expenses to be covered include compensation for actors (small Equity stipend in a few cases), musicians, technicians, fees for renting rehearsal space, production costs, printing of promotional materials, and the entry fee into NYMF itself. THE WRITERS:
ALEXANDER SAGE OYEN (Music & Lyrics) is a new musical theatre composer/lyricist and performer. His musical, Dachau (music and lyrics w/ Christopher Metz), was workshopped at The University of Central Florida and his concert/song cycle, Context (now titled Rebel Verses), premiered in New York City. As a kid, he was seen rocking out on VH1s "In Search of the Partridge Family" where he came in third for the role of Danny Partridge. He also had the incredible opportunity to perform beside Broadway veterans Faith Prince and Davis Gaines as Toby in Sweeney Todd. He attended the University of Minnesota/ Guthrie BFA Actor Training Program and is currently hard at work on two original book-musicals and other miscellaneous writing projects. His debut album, "If I Knew Better: The Songs of Alexander Sage Oyen", was released on iTunes in March, 2011.
MIKE KUTNER (Book) was trained in writing for Musical Theatre at the Lovewell Institute for the Creative Arts in Sweden and co-wrote the musicals Livstecken and The Road to Eville. Michael enjoys referring to himself in the third person and writing fascinating bios.
