I'd like to submit that one of the things this city needs is another all-ages venue. An incubator for up-and-coming musicians, so to speak. Like a cafe with a stage, attached to a music school and an affordable recording studio. That also has repairs, and cool instruments.

Yea, that's the ticket.

If you're reading this, I probably don't have to tell you that shopping local and supporting small businesses and the arts is important. Also, that succeeding as a small, local business or in the arts is extremely difficult.

I've been polling around the music community, asking what folks want most in a music store and researching business models to see if those wants can be a financially viable reality and the answer is...YES! 

Blackbird music is opening in May on Bloomington ave and 52nd st, below The Music Lab and above Old-Fashioned Records. We will specialize in quality stringed instruments, aka all things bowed and plucked. We will not sell things in need of repair...only the best for our customers! And by the best, I don't necessarily mean the most expensive.

When this space became available and then threatened to slip away, I signed the lease with a laughable amount of start-up capital with faith that the Minneapolis Music Scene wants a store with top quality everything as much as I think you do!

Down the road, once the store is running smoothly we are planning on joining forces with The Music Lab and Old-Fashioned Records to form a Musician's Cooperative.

Our Vision: To make a musician out of every man, woman, and child in our communtiy-improving the quality of life for everyone.

Our Values: To operate as Cooperatively and Democratically as possible, maintaining a culture of trust and giving.
