In October Sons Of Daughters will travel from NYC to Germany in order to create a new work with Ballett im Revier.
Dancer/choreographer Bridget Breiner and her brother, saxophonist Patrick Breiner have dreamed of creating a dance piece together for years. In May of 2011 the two came together to perform a short piece called "Come Again When You Can't Stay So Long" in remembrance of their late grandfather, Dick Breiner. Now they're upping the ante. This major collaboration between the siblings has been a long time coming.
Bridget's new position as the artistic director of Ballett im Revier in Gelsenkirchen, Germany presents the pair with a new and exciting opportunity: to create a brand new dance piece on a large scale.
The Breiners, in this case, act largely as catalysts: Bridget inviting the dancers and choreographers of Ballett im Revier and Patrick inviting his closest musical and compositional compatriots, Aaron Darrell and Devin Drobka of Sons Of Daughters.
The dancers and musicians will work together in Gelsenkirchen for two weeks in October. They will explore the themes of hero/anti-hero while developing a unique improvisational language between musician and dancer. This collaboration will culminate on October 27, 2012 with the performance of the new dance piece: Jam Session.
Ballett im Revier is providing Sons Of Daughters with a modest stipend, but our travel expenses to and from Germany will not be covered. This is where you come in. We need the support of the community in order to make this dream a reality.
