A new RPG system that gives the freedom to tell the kind of stories you and your players want, without being locked in to a genre
What began as a simple gamers exercise is soon to be the newest and most flexible RPG on the market today. From Nothing got its start pretty much from nothing, some friends sitting around a table talking about games and deciding to try an experiment. What happens when you build a character and a system without a focus on dice, when story and creativity are what drives the whole process from characters all the way to the end of the adventure? Obviously dice are needed to decide things but From Nothing strives at not needing them for the most part. This project is about trying something new in gaming and giving more options for getting some friends together to fight dragons or skulk around as vampires or reenact those great scenes from Blade Runner. That is the flexibility of From Nothing and flexibility is everything.
From Nothing is a Table Top Role Playing Game. Simply put its pretend with dice. The best example or at least the one most commonly known is Dungeons and Dragons but there are other systems and genres. What we are trying to do with From Nothing is change how people play RPG's and hopefully give some more creative licence to player and storytellers
Simple. In a normal RPG you spend the most time on character creation, crunching number to get the best scores but rarely put a lot of thought into your personality. From Nothing takes the math away, your stats are figured from the traits you choose. Not merits and flaws really, some of the traits have positive and negative effects, but in choosing those traits your numbers become set.
Example: All character start at 0 for Smarts, Move, and Physical but lets say you are a brainy character and take Book Worm (+1 to Smarts but a -1 to physical) Bedroom Samurai (+1 to move but -1 to physical, you don't get very strong waving a wiimote around like a ninja) and Morning Pushups (+1 to physical, you like to wake up with some exercise) that would make your Smarts (1) your Move (1) and your physical (-1). You are a smart kid that can have moments of dexterity but you are not very strong. This cuts down the time you use to crunch numbers and lets you get a game up and running fairly quickly. That is what makes us different and that is why you should help us!
They are, simply, the mascots for Shattered Illusions Games. Untill we have the cover of the book designed they get to be the ones to greet you when you visit us.
