About this project
OUR GOAL: transform Central Florida by opening a space to work and create. We hope to see a space that will incorporate a wide range of production equipment and resources, open, office, classroom, gallery space, and coffee shop. Lack of these things push us towards isolation and keep us from doing some really beautiful things, so we want to alleviate those barriers.
By facilitating growth as individuals and as artists we can in turn reach beyond ourselves and meet some of the needs in the city of Orlando. We are really passionate about teaming up with individuals and organizations that have a new idea or are already working towards creatively changing our city for the better. We will give our members support in initiating and participating in arts-based service projects such as teaching classes/ workshops, leading critiques, running after-school enrichment programs, providing scholarships for people to have access to the space, undertaking city beautification projects, etc.
INTERESTED IN MAKING THAT A REALITY? We believe that it will be a really unique and inspiring space; if you think so too- we’re asking you to financially invest up front to make it happen. This is our initial attempt to gauge interest and receive feedback. Please show your support by donating any little bit you can.
WHAT THIS INITIAL MONEY IS FOR- We are in the process of filing for all that official 501(c)3 stuff. It involves a series of fees, some workshops, getting some advice from knowledgeable people, website building, printing some materials, and other miscellaneous costs. Any additional money raised will help us take our next steps in the coming months, bringing us closer to making this a reality.
SO, WHAT EQUIPMENT? YOU ASK- We want to free artists financially so the typical high costs of studios and supplies or high commissions do not hinder endeavors. For a nominal monthly fee, we hope to provide office space and conference rooms for rent; a dark-room and supplies- including enlargers, chemistry, tanks and reels, and photo paper; iMacs equipped with Adobe Creative Suite and Final Cut Pro Complete, etc.; printers; scanners; sound equipment; various instruments; recording studio; easels; light tables; pottery wheels and an electric kiln; wood working materials; sewing machines, dress forms, cutting boards; projector/ screen; books… etc.
SOOOOO- Orlando is full of talent and its creative individuals and industries are making strides in building our reputation and adding to our economy. We want to be intentional about bringing those people together and involving them in a story bigger than themselves. Conduit will exist as a connection point to unite people from all different backgrounds while merging areas of knowledge and experience to improve the creative culture of Orlando. A city of people that fail to share and teach one another is a city that is starving itself.
This kickstarter is more than about just raising money, although we do need that, we’re really using this to gauge your interest and see if this is something Orlando wants. Questions. Concerns.
