The autoshutdown had been set to "never" before. I did a permanent ping from my laptop to cloudftp over night. Next morning it was shut down again. No way for continuos operation?

@heckert As per US FCC rules, CloudFTP supports WiFI channels 1-11. What is your wife's name? CloudFTP is designed to shutdown automatically after a set period of inactivity (i.e. no client connected). To disable this feature, goto Settings>Auto Power Off>Never.
After power up the unit always connected to infrastructure, displayed the LaCie 500T drive (externally powered) and at the ended in displaying its IP address, as it should do.
But during a testing period of less than 3 hours it powered down 4 times at least for no obvious reasons. During the hole testing session the cloudftp was powered by an external AC-Adapter 5V/2amps and the charging indicator LED was green.
Looks as though the CloudFTP is useless for permanent operation.

I received my replacement unit several days ago.
The burning issue seems to be fixed now.
It took some time to establish a connection to my home-wireless.
At the end the reason was my router sent on channel 13 (EU!)
obviously not supported by the wifi inside cloudftp.
So I swapped to channel 9 and now the connection works.
Which Wifi-channels are supported by cloudftp?
By the way, my wife is still waiting for her replacement unit -
she did not receive any notice at all until now,
so please tell my the status of her delivery.

@Christos Your package was shipped out on March 19 (US Postal Service # LJ922498511US). If you have yet to receive the package, it might have been lost in the mail. What we can do now is to file an insurance claim for you. I hope you understand that we did our utmost to ship out your package in a timely manner on March 19. We did not delay or postpone your shipment three times as mentioned. At this point, only USPS knows where your package is. It is not an excuse but an unfortunate fact. I understand that you are frustrated but no amount of organization on our part could have prevented the package from getting lost in the mail. I will get someone from our support team to file an insurance claim for you and give you a status update.

I have yet to receive my two units. Worst experience I have ever had. Have spoken to various individuals at the online chat, and noone really seems to know what is going on. I would be perfectly fine if someone told me in January that I would be receiving my units 6 months or a year later, but for some reason my order has already been postponed three times, and the last excuse I got was that USPS misplaced it. One of the units was intended as a gift in April, had I known how unorganized you are I would have never made this purchase. I guess this is what it means to learn from your mistakes. In any case I have grown extremely impatient and expect someone responsible to send me an EMAIL informing me on the status of my units.

Meanwhile I disassembled the PCB and found more burned chips on its backside.
Heavy heat has caused a blister in the pcb as well.
The PCB revision code ist 2011/11/22WD700-PW1.
I could send you photographs but cannot attach them here.
Are there any plans to warn customers of potential fire hazard?

I just read your comment on the writing of oceana. Being a professional hardware developper myself I had a look at my burnt down CloudFTP. As I could not stop smoking by pushing the power pushbutton I opened the box as fast as I could to disconnect the battery. Having done this I touched with my finger the area were the smoke came from. The hot spots were found to be the switchmode voltage converter and the 220u/10V bulk capacitor, both close to the 6.8uH storage choke. The ic cracked and as a result a visible blister popped up on it. The hot bulk capacitor is imho an indication for a temporary overvoltage, not for a short circuit.
Furthermore I want to mention that this is a network device and so CE marking is mandatory in Europe.
There is no CE marking on it, so any sales to the European Market are illegal.

I'm sorry for your unpleasant experience. Allow me to respond to your comments.
1) Kickstarter is a crowd-fundraising site not an online store. You pledged to make a donation to support this project and in return got a reward which could be the product itself. It is clear from the start that project will be funded in early January and we will only start shipping rewards from February (which is very fast by Kickstarter standards). We started shipping the first rewards from February 29 and in your case, your reward was shipped on March 19. Given that US Postal Service First Class Mail can take up to 1 month to deliver a package from USA to Germany, I assume you got your reward around late April. So the real delay here was the 19 days between the time when we started shipping rewards (February 29) and the actual shipping date of March 19, which I apologize.
2) The first batch of CloudFTP did not have a user guide due to a printing error but we did post a download link to the user guide in a March 3rd update which was sent to everyone (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/125911486/cloudftp-wirelessly-share-any-usb-storage-with-ipa/posts/184351)
3) CloudFTP came with a USB charging cable which can be charged from the computer USB port or any USB power adapter that came with your smartphone/tablet.
4) CloudFTP is a unique new product in its category and we are new to the Kickstarter process, so I admit we screw up some things. We are learning new things ourselves everyday but I assure you that we will stand by our products. Most of the problems you experienced have already been fixed or are in the process of being fixed. The smoking was caused by a short circuit between the USB port and the WiFi module due the close proximity of the components and breakdown of the insulation layer. The actual smoke came from a burnt fuse which is designed cutoff power in the event of a short circuit. There was never a fire risk. There were 2 other safety systems to prevent that from happening. We have since corrected the design to prevent this from happening again.

Cloud FTP - My worst kickstarter experience forever
From the very beginning things went bad. Hypershop could not deliver to my Irish address due to the fact that the Republic of Ireland does not use postal codes.
From paying in January until delivery it took nearly 5months.
Delivery included neither a user guide nor a charger for the internal battery.
Setup failed - no ad hoc connection could be established.
Investigations of my husband revealed that the web interface only communicates with safari or google chrome, neither Internet Explorer nor Firefox can connect to its web interface.
No hints to that restrictions can be found on CoudFTP prospect.
Booting up sometime hangs and starts after power shutdown although the latest firmware has been upgraded by my husband. After this hassle finally it CloudFTP connected to my home network and the contents of 16GB USB-pendrive could be accessed as expected. But in the very moment I plugged in a 1TB Buffalo Harddrive HD-PXT1TU2 the display of CloudFTP dimmed totally. And SMOKE evaporated from inside the CloudFTP. Pushing the power button had no effect, the smell continued until my husband opened the box and removed the battery in it. The smell was painful and I had to bring out the children out of the room and open all windows. The room was pested for hours!
So, all in all this was by far my worst kickstarter experience:
-logistics seemed totally unorganized
-delivery was delayed for several months
-the developper never responded to my e-mails
-firmware inside is buggy
-there is a potential RISK of BURNING HAZARD
-the power switch does NOT disconnect on case of burning
After all that I want my money back as soon as possible.

@Nick Chamberlain, I am in Toronto, I received my 2 units (1 black, 1 white) seperately, and both took about 2 weeks from receiving the confirmation emails to receive the package. Hope this helps!!!

Please help! I cannot upgrade none of apps will download.
I know there's no control once the package is in the hands of the postal system, but I'm just wondering if anyone has an estimate on the shipping time to Ontario. I received my tracking information saying electronic shipping information was received on May 3. On May 4 it updated saying it was processed at the USPS sort facility in Los Angeles.
Since then I haven't had any updates. Maybe it's stuck at the border? Is there anyway for me to get an update by calling or emailing USPS?
Has anyone else in Ontario or Canada received their unit? How long did it take?

@Michelle There's some miscommunication somewhere. We can certainly provide a replacement charging cable with shipping included for $9.95. I will get someone from HyperShop support to get in touch with you.
I'm surprised you were unable to get help from hypershop.com on obtaining a replacement USB power cable. Seems a trivial thing to either sell or, at the very least, obtain alternative sources for the cable. No vendor today leaves you high and dry, especially on a newly released product. If Hypershop's site is unhelpful, call their parent Sanho LLC 1292 Kifer Rd # 806 Sunnyvale, CA 94086 (408) 737-7878
The cable, though unidentified in their literature, or site, is likely to follow USB power cable specs with just a unique connector. Who knows, it may become more of a standard as devices get smaller and less data needy but still power hungry (e.g. future iPhones).
Well, my dog chewed through the USB charging cable and now I can't charge my CloudFTP. When I inquired about a replacement cable, I was told there isn't one. My only option was to purchase a wall charger. Are there plans to eventually sell a replacement cable? I can't understand why the cable is not available for purchase. This is one of the reason why it would have been nice if the unit came with a micro USB port. Oh well.
I agree with @Teddy. This device is sitting on my shelf collecting dust due to the non-existent android support. Hopefully it comes soon, or I'll actually have to literally scrub the dust of of this device. Help us out @Daniel Chin! Give us what was promised. Don't play favourites.
@BB While I feel your frustration for not receiving your reward till now, I hope you can understand that your package is now with the postal office and in transit from USA to Germany. Unfortunately we have no control over the postal office or the German customs as to how fast they can deliver the package. What we can do for you (since it's more than a month since we ship) is to raise an insurance claim. I will create a support ticket for your case and our support team will contact you for more information.

I also still wait of my item. I've got an mail from Michael on 04.April with the Info that my order is shipped out (incl. Trackingno.), but until today, I have received nothing. Also no info from our customs.
I can not understand the company how they deal with their customers.

Now I'm just trying to download the cloudftp.app along with the firmware update but the app doesn't start download ...tried at different times just incase I hit a peek period, but nothing :( sends request to dropbox but returns nothing. firmware and txt documents all downloaded ok.

Update - @Steve - I have tried all methods to contact Sanho including tickets within the Hypershop store and messages via online chat. Several hours after leaving the message here I received an E-mail to my last ticket saying a shipment was made. So they are responding just at a speed most people are not expecting. Reading Teddy's update is a bummer since this was to be one birthday gift for someone with an Android tablet.
I got mine about 3 wks ago. And I can say that my cloudftp is just sitting on my bookshelf collecting dust right now. If you're using IOS devices this cloudftp is just working fine. But for android devices, this device is failed, doesn't work as it supposed to be. If you read again from "Project Home" descriptions, this cloudftp is dedicated for IOS/Android devices but in fact it's only for IOS. The most problematic is NO support from sanho if we got a problem and really slow to fix the update. And SDK/API which is promised to be opensource is still no sign to be shared.

Scott: suggest you contact Sanho. If you go to sanho.com you'll be redireced to the Hypershop site where you can have an online chat. Just provide them with the original order number and they can find out where things stand. That's what I did and they were quite helpful.
Hi Scott Garbow.....I just got a message saying a package has been shipped to me from Sanho.....I has pledged for one of the white units so looks like I should have mine in a day or two.....Latest Monday.
Has anyone who ordered a black unit (correct packaging) and white unit received there reward? I have submitted order status tickets and messages while they were offline on chat. No response to any type of inquiry from the company.

Thank you for your attention. I was talking about technical issues which according Daniel should be discussed in the forum. But it's been a week since any respond from Sanho's people.
I'm not a Sanho customer and I don't wanna be one. Their support working hours is not matching to my hours since I live in the other part of the world anyway.
@Arnold @ David It might be best to go to the Hypershop site and open an order status ticket. When I opened a ticket last week, I got a response shortly afterwards that my white unit was shipping.

No activity from Daniel Chin, not even in forum.. Many questions unanswered.
White unit received today. Works perfectly so far. No rattle and only moderate heat coming from the WiFi radio and the flash drive during heavy usage. F/W v12 was already installed.

The antenna is on the base side and I get good signal when it is 25 feet and one wall away from my router - I am pleased with the range. It is probably best to set the CloudFTP on its back with the display facing upward.

Some additional flexibility with the user interface would be welcome. I would like to be able to switch modes without rebooting (if possible) and for the adhoc password to be removed from the display after a brief delay.
@Daniel Can you comment on whether you've started shipping out the white units yet? The last update mentioned a few days after the 23rd. Anxiously waiting for it!
