About this project

THE HUNT FOR GOOD AMERICANS, a fun, light-hearted, and creative film now in post production, follows two young women on their cross country artistic investigation and public profile of citizens who are free of the consumer culture. The film’s protagonists, Tori and Abby, aim to inspire young girls’ imaginative nature. Rather than attaching to culturally established images, Tori and Abby seek out the creative counterculture of America, proving beauty comes from within, and that the most important qualities are wit, curiosity, spirit, humor, and color.

The “good Americans” (wide flock of characters along the American landscape) encountered during travels are bit roles in the film, The girls incorporate songs passed down through generations, script the film through improvizational rhyme, and fictionalize names for the places and people visited. Of the many lessons gleaned on the road, Tori and Abby wish to share this insight from Tim Gleason, contributor to New York Times/Cartoonist with their like-minded followers:

Tim:
Only VIP's if you please
This is a very important place
and you two just don't have the right face
nor very good taste.....

So no entry for you
we only take the shiny and new!!

Abby and Tori:
Well,, we don't like your exclusivity
it's not polite, it's pure idiocy!
We have better places to go
and bigger seeds to sew!!

Tim: (leans in whispering to share a secret)

Girls, don't forget that the red rope
is all tomfoolery in the bigger scope.

Shshshsh, now I never said that,
keep hunting for your stray cat....

The philosophy of THE HUNT FOR GOOD AMERICANS is evident in all aspects of the production: When you have very little, you can rely on creativity and imagination. Tori and Abby began this project with the idea that fashion can be created out of the old instead of the new, and that the human spirit in America is noble, adventurous, and multicultural not an invention of the media or the Hollywood moguls. They traveled in a beat-up old car and dressed in thrift-store clothes to demonstrate that wit, imagination, and individualism, rather than material wealth, can be the hallmarks of our society. The film’s funding is also authentic in its approach. The fundraising efforts have included public performance and grassroots campaigns. The film was shot with a minimal $5000, supporting the original goal, the antithesis of consumerism, and proving to the young people of America what is most valuable and important is resourceful energy and artistic expression.

THE HUNT FOR GOOD AMERICANS still needs roughly $15,000 to edit the footage as the film is now in post-production. We intend to submit the finished documentary to several film festivals next year, including Sundance and Cannes, in hopes that it will be picked up by a distributor. We welcome any unconventional fundraising, partnership opportunities, and any and all support of the artistic spirit!
