Dena Deadly will be shooting a video for her song "Look Away".


"Look Away" Video Treatment By Jay Fisher-

With it's prayer-like structure and themes of sin, judgment, and redemption, LOOK AWAY suggests an internal struggle of biblical proportions.


Upon hearing it, I was immediately reminded of the Old Testament story, wherein Abraham is called upon by the lord to sacrifice his young son, as a symbol of ultimate devotion. A sacrifice he agrees to perform, but is finally spared the horror of completing by an intervening angel.

My treatment for this video would draw from this ancient story, creating a period piece and casting Dena in the role of Abraham, as her character confronts the confusion and torment of such a bizarre and terrible demand while on her quest for spiritual understanding.

The visual approach to the video would draw largely from Martin Scorsese's film THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST. The stark desert landscape, limited color palate, and textured wardrobe would all provide inspiration for the LOOK AWAY video, which is meant to be a highly stylized emotional drama.

When the video opens, it's night in the dessert and Dena is meditating in front of a large burning bush, from which she receives the horrible message.

As the first chorus begins, it's day and Dena's character returns to her home where she's greeted by her husband, his two brothers, and her 2.5 year old son, who comes running over to hug her. The family says grace, eats together, and then Dena gives her young son a bath.

Later that night, after the boy has been put to sleep, Dena's character reveals the demand she received from the burning bush to her husband. He is stunned silent for a beat, and then ferociously overturns the kitchen table as he attacks Dena. He'd rather kill his own wife then let her sacrifice their child to an unseen God. His brothers restrain him and Dena leaves with the boy.

They walk through the desert for the next chorus. They are joined by a handful of eclectic devotees who walk behind the pair, until finally, they've traveled so far, no one follows them any longer.

Here Mother and son stop. It begins to rain as Dena's character sings her final words to her son, and turns her tear-streaked face skyward in a final appeal to her heavenly father.

Receiving no reprieve, the mother draws a crude knife. She and the boy stare at one another for an extended moment, before she finally lifts the weapon.

As she plunges down with the knife, the frame turns pure white, and fades back into picture to find Mother and son frozen in time,the deadly blade only an inch from the child's skull. They are surrounded by frozen rain drops, suspended icicle-like in mid air. 

An angel's feet float gracefully down to the dessert surface, and he spreads his wings for a moment, before approaching the scene. He waves off the suspended rain drops, which crash into the dessert sand. He walks up to the scene and smiles compassionately. 

The scene fades to black and fades back up on the exterior of the family home we visited at the start of the video. The father opens the door, and is speechless as he finds Mother and son standing outside. 

I believe that, like the song by which it's inspired, the LOOK AWAY video will tap into ancient religious archetypes and produce a soulful, spiritually moving production.
