FILM SYNOPSIS
Jamie is moving from Chicago to New York in 2 weeks, to follow her dream of becoming a Broadway actress. Her best friend, Jessica, is bummed, because she is not-so-secretly in love with her. As moving day gets closer, Jessica tries to make Jamie jealous (and get her to stay in Chicago) by sleeping around with other girls. But Jessica's plan backfires, in a way she could never imagine.

The film is "in the can" and it looks and sounds marvelous! The acting, the photography, the music numbers, the make-out scenes--they're all amazing. Now we're in what we call "post-production" phase, when we apply all the finishing touches so the movie is ready for the world to enjoy.
WHAT THAT MEANS
Edit footage into a smooth sexy story. Record additional dialogue. Create and mix the ambient sound (creaking doors, footsteps, traffic noise) that makes the story world real. Record the music to perfection. Create an official film trailer. Design logo, poster, and film credits (including the ones that thank you for your contribution!).
WHAT'S THIS FILM ABOUT?
“Jamie and Jessie are Not Together” is about two young women whose codependent friendship is fraught with erotic tension. It’s not about "coming out", but about two people on the cusp of adulthood, figuring out how to grow together or how to grow apart.
We're making the kind of film we want to see more of-- a cross between a romantic comedy and a queer buddy movie. Think “Show Me Love” meets “My Best Friend’s Wedding", add two cute queer college girls and stir.
WHY THIS FILM IS IMPORTANT
With all the social and political challenges LGBTQ folks face at this historical moment, it's of vital importance that we tell as many of our stories as possible. When we are finished with this Post-Production phase, we believe "Jamie and Jessie are Not Together", will be a positive addition to the cultural landscape by telling a refreshing fun love story with queer characters that are not stereotypical. A contribution to this film represents an investment in the future of sophisticated queer cinema.
WHY THIS FILM WILL BE SUCCESSFUL
This film has good bones--complex characters, a simple story line, gorgeous cinematography--and great legs. And we're working with some amazing people, including;
Jacqui Jackson (Jamie) played Greta in Hannah Free, opposite the lovely Sharon Gless. In this film, she shows off her fabulous singer/songwriter skills to boot. Jessica London-Shields (Jessie) graduated from the Theater School of Depaul and is a rising talent with incredible emotional range. This is her first feature film. Fawzia Mirza (Rhonda) is a Jeff Award recipient and currently cast as a lead in the play, Scorched. Stacey Flaster (Choreography) was just nominated for a Broadway World Award for her work in Jesus Christ Superstar. Stephanie McCullough (Composer) is Music Director at Second City in Chicago. Rick Paul (Art Director) is the Founder of the pioneer Lionheart Theatre, and has worked in every state of the Union on over 450 productions. Gretchen Warthen ( Director of Photography) was the DP on Hannah Free, and television shows such as the Real L Word and Starting Over.
DISTRIBUTION PLANS
Carlton's previous feature, Hannah Free, is about the lifelong love affair between an independent spirit and the woman she calls home. It stars the awesome, Emmy-winning Sharon Gless of “Queer as Folk” and “Burn Notice”, and has received 5 Audience Awards for Best Narrative film. It is currently being distributed globally (Wolfe Video) and digitally (iTunes/Netflix/Comcast). Hell, it's even made it past the censors and is for sale at Target! "Jamie and Jessie are Not Together" will take advantage of both traditional and current digital distribution models upon its release.

Wendy Jo Carlton is a filmmaker, writer, and photographer with a background in radio production, teaching, and media activism. Carlton is a former artist-in-residence at 911 Media Arts in Seattle and a recipient of the Navona Fellowship from the University of Illinois Chicago, where she earned a graduate degree in film/new media. Her award-winning narrative and experimental short films have screened internationally, including the American Film Institute, Sundance, and many other festivals. In addition to founding a media literacy program for teen girls called Chicks Make Flicks, Carlton works as a field producer for Sirius Radio and PBS Television and teaches at Columbia College.

"Jamie & Jessie are Not Together" is Wendy Jo's third feature film project as director, and she is also the screenwriter. Wendy Jo is currently developing other feature film projects for the future of the production company, Juicy Planet Pictures.
