By distributing a film, YAGP will further its mission to educate the next generation of dancers because thousands of artists will have unprecedented access to current interpretations of ballet classics.
Because it is such an exciting project, Ballet in Cinema – the company that has brought Bolshoi Ballet and The Royal Ballet of London to movie screens across America – has chosen to present the Gala at its participating movie theaters. This would allow people who do not normally have access to dance artistry to experience firsthand the beauty and excitement of classical ballet.
This is where you come in. With your support, we can bring the best of classical ballet to people across the country. So please consider making a donation; no donation is too big or too small. We need $35,000 to cover the costs of the filming – but if we are able to raise more than that amount, we could apply it towards making the production even more compelling and comprehensive. We could engage more artists and produce more documentary materials, making it an ever bigger and better version of “Ballet’s Greatest Hits.”

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Creating art – something that lifts us out of our everyday reality into some other, magical realm – requires special people and special circumstances. This project is subject to the very special risks and challenges that are unique to art and artists.
A ballet artist might fall ill or get injured. In that case, we would have to replace one artist with another. When replacing artists, we would have to adjust the program in a way that takes into consideration each artist’s strengths and the constraints of their repertoire. Having produced many Galas, we feel confident that we will be able to do it successfully – but it is always a challenge.
One of the biggest challenges of this project is creating something that will appeal as much to balletomanes as to the general public. We plan to meet the challenge by choosing artists who are beloved by the dance world and have a universal appeal. In addition to sharing ballet with people who already love it, our mission is to introduce people who normally do not have access to ballet to the magic of this art form. Trying to appeal to different groups always carries a risk. We chose to address it by engaging some of the best filmmakers in the United States, hoping that their professionalism and experience will result in a film production that will be as appealing to balletomanes as well as introduce a new audience to the wonders of ballet.
