You may have noticed, we surpassed our goal! Thank you to all those who have made this possible! We have believed in the importance of making this film for years now, and it is an honor to know there are so many who stand behind the film's vision with us.

We have secured the funds to pay back our expenses, finish a fine cut of the film, and submit to festivals. So why donate now? Well, we are hoping to raise an additional $5-15k towards making the best movie possible and getting it out into the world. An additional $3,000 would allow the filmmakers to travel to the festival premiere, which is essential to promoting the film and securing distribution. A further $5,000-$10,000 would allow us to allot funds for marketing the film and getting it out to new audiences. 

Also, pledging is the ONLY way to get a copy of the film right now. We don't know when/how we will secure distribution, so donating is the best way to ensure you get to see this film as soon as possible.

What is the documentary film Public Sex, Private Lives?

Public Sex, Private Lives is an intimate look at the professional and private lives of porn performers Lorelei Lee, Princess Donna, and Isis Love. Capturing both joy and struggle, this film follows the characters as they navigate their lives as artists, daughters, mothers, writers, and women who have made careers in the adult industry. Asked to defend their choices to their families, communities, and even the United States Government, these women reckon with their past decisions and shifting visions for the future.

Unlike previous films on the porn industry, Public Sex, Private Lives neither glamorizes nor condemns the work, but instead reveals the ambitions, dreams, and relationships of the women who do it. Though the backdrop for these women’s stories is the pornographic industry, this film is about much more. It’s about the choices people make to live the lives of their dreams, the way they stand up to a society that tells them they can’t have or shouldn’t want the things they do, and the balancing acts they must play as they negotiate multiple identities that the world wants them to believe are at odds.

I became inspired to shoot a feature length documentary on the public personas and private lives of porn performers in 2008. People have a lot of judgments about porn performers, so I thought it could be really compelling to not only explore what happens behind-the-scenes, but also in these performers' personal lives. I've been incredibly honored by the access these women have given me to their most vulnerable moments. And the more I've learned how dynamic they are, the more I've realized how much these stories need to be told to the world.

Simone Jude is a filmmaker and composer based in San Francisco with a love of visual storytelling and cinematic tension. She studied film at USC and NYU Tisch School of the Arts, where she earned a BFA in film and television production. Simone’s films have screened internationally, including short film Lorelei Lee (co-directed with Jesse Kerman) winning ‘Best Directing’ and ‘Best Original Score’ in the International Documentary Challenge at Hot Docs International Film Fest in Toronto in 2009. Her debut feature documentary, Immaculate Confession, a 'mythic love story’ (San Francisco Chronicle) on Catholic priests and nuns who fell in love in the sixties, premiered at the United Nations Film Festival in 2008. Simone also shot and directed the visually stunning music video ‘Situation’ by Ex-Boyfriends, which premiered internationally on Logo Television.
