Acclaimed emerging artist Kimberly Waite compiles her first album of classical soprano arias.
“After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.” Aldous Huxley
Many would argue that Kimberly Waite was an opera singer from her youth. Her early career began her senior year of high school when she was recognized as the top classical singer for her age range in the entire state. While attending university, she was granted the rare opportunity to study abroad with some of the most nationally recognizable young artists of her time in Salzburg, Austria. Her experiences there were a springboard into the world of opera. At a very young age for her current career, she now seeks to find her niche among the great singers of her time.
In 2010, Kim was recognized by the Metropolitan Opera as an up-and-coming artist during the National Council Auditions. This nationwide competition hosts the best and brightest from all vocal styles to compete for recognition among the greats of the opera world.
In 2012, Kim was invited to attend the prestigious OperaWorks summer programs for advanced artists. This program provides career guidance and further instruction for future opera professionals.
With a bright and vibrant career on the horizon, Ms. Waite seeks to produce her first album. This album will consist of a compilation of soprano arias targeted to both opera and non-opera lovers. Whether you have ever attended an opera or not, these arias will ring familiar in your ears.
Ms. Waite’s solo work will be accompanied by the acclaimed pianist Nicholas Maughan. Mr. Maughan has performed on various recordings and is highly regarded as the go-to collaborator for singers and instrumentalists in the region. He was awarded the Certificate of Distinguished Service at the Weber State Department of Performing Arts in 2008. He is also a member of the Tria Fata piano trio. With Tria Fata, he was a national finalist at the MTNA conference in 2010.
These young artists hope to produce a recording that will be both pleasant to listen to, and also represent a piece of history over the course of successful careers in music. Your small contribution will not only aid these artists directly, but will help perpetuate the culture and history of great classical music. In a time full of bubble gum rock radio and poorly constructed chord progressions, classical music shines through as a bright beacon of where we came from, and where we hopefully will arrive again.
Opera provides a reference point for our personal cultural and historical understanding. Much of the music we enjoy, the stories we revere, and the morals we teach are present in the history and compilations of opera.
Opera is an experience in culture. Often, the ideas represented in opera hold their foundations in the history of other nations. For this reason, opera has a tendency to encourage cross cultural understanding, tolerance, and common ground.
Opera requires an attention to detail, a commitment to technical excellence, and an understanding of the nuances of emotion. All these characteristics are not only promoted on the stage, but within the observing audience as well. Opera is an education in excellence.
Finally, opera communicates those most basic human emotions that cannot be expressed in speech. The music of the centuries past provides us with a window into the souls of our own predecessors, and reaffirms that as human beings, we share more in common than we would expect.
