Asymmetrical two player tile manipulation board game of Hacker vs Admin in a cyberpunk world approaching the brink of oblivion.
On December 28th, 2021, researcher Avent Marlon perfected the first neural interface that provided a high bandwidth two way link with advanced electronics. Marlon and Sandesk Inc. went on to produce a series of interactive devices that enabled perfect vision in the majority of the blind, high speed data manipulation and real time robotic control over the next year.
Marlon and Sandesk's grip on the NeuralNet technology was lost within three years due to corporate espionage and data theft. M&S was quickly the subject of a hostile take over and its assets sold off to its three largest competitors.
With major financial backing and the world's foremost researchers, the Tier 1 Technology companies formed a world wide monopoly on NeuralNet products refusing to license out the technology to startups or other tech companies. Whenever a company reverse engineered the NeuralNet and improved on it, the Tier 1s purchased the offender and split its assets. It wasn't until Avent Marlon and his partner Sandesk released an updated version of the NeuralNet using newly developed technology that the Tier 1s monopoly was finally broken enough to allow smaller competitors into the field.
Meanwhile, the technology released into the world allowed real time virtual reality that revolutionized business, training and culture. The NeuralNet replaced the aging Internet and the world changed. As business moved into the wireless virtual world, organized and unorganized crime followed. Hackers hid among the NeuralNet social crowds striking at businesses where they could. Corporate security screamed for offline networks but the ease of use for the real world workers and the ability to control factories from central locations necessitated the inclusion of NeuralNet access.
Hackers and Admins now fight over the control of corporate assets. Are you an underground Hacker seeking the spoils of corporate greed or are you a NeuralNet Security Admin trying desperately to hold back the chaos?
Data Fortress is a two-player tile laying and manipulation game that pits two opponents against each other with asymmetrical goals. Data Fortress plays in 20 to 45 minutes depending on the level of experience players have with the game. Each turn players will be playing tile(s) and manipulating the position of tiles on the table to further their own agenda.
Data Fortress is Living Worlds Games, LLC's 3rd game to be released, following 1955: The War of Espionage in 2011 and Schlock Mercenary: Capital Offensive in Q3 of 2012. It is the second in our line of 2-Player Games and comes in the same box size as 1955: The War of Espionage. Data Fortress was originally envisioned in 2009 and has been under design and development for the last three years.
We are planning on offering the game with a MSRP of $30 USD but during our KickStarter Campaign, we are offering it for $25 USD and that includes free shipping to the US and reduced shipping world wide.

Current KickStarter Promo Items:
KickStarter promotional items will be available initially to KickStarter supporters and then later as convention giveaways or through the BGG Store.
1 Alternate Hacker Program Tile - Shield I: The original Shield program was created to provide mobile defenses against intrusion counter measures that system admins routinely used. Though its protection is not as robust as newer shield programs, it is still a stalwart defense program.
1 Alternate Admin Program Tile - Shield II: System Administrators adapted the original shield program for use with their security teams. More thoroughly coded, the Shield II program can stand up against a good bit more abuse at the cost of a small bit of mobility.
Kicking It Forward:
Kicking It Forward is a great initiative started in 2012 by inXile Entertainment. The URL: http://kickingitforward.org :has all the information. Kicking It Forward is based around the concept that success in our shared marketplace, our community of crowd funding, should be shared with other projects. To that end, 5% of all profits for Data Fortress will go towards supporting other KickStarter projects. I'm looking forward to supporting even more KickStarter projects.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
This is our third game, we have an existing relationship with the manufacturer and have set our goal to cover all the costs related with the game manufacturing and with shipping. Risks include the possibility that manufacturing costs sky rocket at which point we'll be reaching deeply into savings to make up the short fall.
The game is undergoing an additional round of final balance checks with blind playtesters which could delay the game an additional month should minute changes be required.
