About this project

1955: The War of Espionage

# of Players: 2 Players Ages of Players: 13+ Play Time: - Normal: 15 Minutes - 45 Minutes (First Game) - Fast Players: 10 Minutes - 30 Minutes Designer: Kevin G. Nunn (Velo City and Duck! Duck! Go!) Box Size: Length (7 7/8'") and width(7 7/8") identical to another popular 2-player box.. Height is 2". Rules: A link at the bottom will take you to the rules Three examples of cards from the game.

Summary of Game:

1955 is a two player card game where each player takes control of the covert affairs of a Faction. Players alternate turns in which they play card combos and maneuver their spy across the globe to strike at their opponent's weak spot. Each turn sees the hearts and minds of the world's population influenced by the actions of the master spies until finally, a country's people rise up and join that player's faction. Once a Faction has solidified their propaganda control over the people of three different countries, that Faction wields enough influence in the global theater to control events throughout the remainder of the Cold War.

Summary of Play:

A player has a hand of 5 cards. Each turn, a player makes 2 Card Plays, draws up to their hand size, and moves their pawn to one of the six countries represented on the board. Then their opponent performs the same actions. A card may be played in two different ways offensively and one way defensively. Cards may be used to influence the control represented on the card, the country that the player's Spy pawn is in, the player's Home Country or for the special action printed on the card. Cards may also be used for counter-intelligence work in order to block your opponent's attempts to subvert people. The location you move your spy to requires forward planning as the spy controls which countries you may block your opponent in until your next turn and also the country that your cards may be used for increased potency in offensive actions.

Concepts at Work during Play:

* Maneuvering of Spy between multiple countries to increase your effects and decrease your opponents * Use of Country Cards to create card combos to secure control of individual countries * Targeted use of Special Actions to influence hand sizes, control of board, manipulation of spy locations and knowledge of opponent's plans.

Publishing 1955: The War of Espionage and why we need You!

1955: The War of Espionage will be released in 2011. Due to the costs of manufacturing, we are seeking Pre-Orders to ensure that we can provide the best product possible. The game will be printed by the German board game manufacturer Ludo Fact. Printing, shipping and quality costs will run in at $15,000 USD to bring the game in at a reasonable cost. We have set our goal at $7,500 and will cover all the remaining expenses between the goal of $7,500 and $15,000. Ideally, our goal for the project is 15k allowing us to produce a second game in the summer of 2011.

To reach this goal, we need your support. We are offering pre-orders of the game as an incentive to assist us in reaching our goals and starting us on the path to fulfill our dream of introducing the world to a variety of quality games. The higher the support, the more games and extras we can include.

How Pre-Order Rewards will work

By supporting 1955:The War of Espionage at the $30 or higher level, you will receive a copy of the game once the printers complete it and it is freighted over. At that point, I will ship the game and the extras to your door. Based on all expectations, it will be roughly 3 months after the KickStarter program is over for the games to arrive in Houston and another few days for us to perform a bit of Quality Control and mail it out to all our supporters. Rules: Rules in pre-art / editing phase

Connected as Nicholas Vitek (151 friends)

I am in Quality Assurance at a Texas Oil Rig fabrication company. I am also a writer and design / publish board games (Hopefully for a living in the future).
In 2007, I started Living Worlds Games with an eye to create games, board and other, that evolve over time based on the actions of a large group of players. We are also striving to produce games that are visually appealing and feature good graphic design.
We are looking at releasing our first two games in 2011.

On a personal note, I've been gaming for over two decades now. I play everything from board games (LNOE, Dominion), RPGs (Shadowrun, Rifts), MMOs(Eve Online) to video games (Fallout 3). I decided to move into designing and publishing board games a couple of years ago due to a conversation I had on a MUSH (A text based MMO, no pictures).

Another player and I were discussing the inability of a popular RPG designer to properly balance to massive amount of product he was pushing out onto the market when my friend told me that if I felt like I could do better balancing rules and producing product, I should stop merely playing games and go out there and make one happen.
