The "Altar of Eternity" is a functional altar in the Mesoamerican spiritual tradition, with a legacy of continuous practice that extends more than 8,000 years into prehistory. Visitors to the altar are invited to burn incense and offer prayers as offerings on the flame that will burn from sundown to sunrise. We invite you to step into the transformation of consciousness predicted by our ancestors in this year 2012. Dancers, worshippers, musicians, and mystics of all kinds are invited to to help draw forth this kind of energy at the altar.
Presiding over the altar is a pair of sculptural icons representing the primordial couple Ometeotl and Omecihuatl, whose union represent the fundamental principle of duality, or "omeca" that underlies the universe, much like the ancient Chinese concept of yin & yang.
There are many ways to participate!
- Tune In - Meditate, send prayers... visualize a positive spiritual connection to this "totem" that will exist for only one week at the Burning Man Festival in Nevada and will touch the hearts of thousands of people.
- Donate - The costs to put together this project are small but real. We need your support make this happen!
- Spread the Word - The more people are aware and connected to this project, the bigger it's impact.
- Perform - Would you like to perform at a given time at the altar? Get in touch and be on the altar's calendar. Online registration ends on Friday Aug 24 - no internet on-playa! Check out our calendar at the Events Board near Center Camp.
- Volunteer - Will you be at Burningman 2012? We need help monitoring the fire, carrying firewood, building the adobe statues, and the like. If you aren't going to the playa this year, you can still help us with all kinds of preparations. If you'd like to volunteer, email us!
