"The Mother's Visit" is a short thesis film through the Screen Arts and Cultures Department at the University of Michigan.
The Mother's Visit is a dark comedy/drama about a 28 year-old woman who wakes up to find her mother has moved in with her. The problem? Her mother has been dead for three months. In this not-so-ghostly story, Jane and her mother, Carol must deal with the often humorous, and occasionally melancholic moments that come with Carol's visit. The two women revisit their relationship and discover that while absence often makes the heart grow fonder, some things never change.

The Mother's Visit is a thesis film at the University of Michigan. It explores the complex relationship between mother and daughter, and the connection that remains even beyond our earthbound presence. It draws together my personal conclusions about the ties we keep with those who have passed, and the enduring strength of love despite incalculable distance.
about us
Barbara Twist, Writer & Director: A senior in the Screen Arts and Cultures program at U of M. Last summer, I worked with GRAiNEY Pictures in Venice, California as an intern on a reality web series. This past summer, I worked with a Detroit-based 3D company, Giant Eel, to direct a 3D music video for a well-known Ann Arbor musician. A film of mine, SHARK TANK, premiered at the Traverse City Film Festival. I have directed two other short films as well, "The Watchmaker", and "The Gardener."
Alan Torres, Director of Photography: Worked professionally in Los Angeles for the past two summers. Directed several documentaries and short films through the Screen Arts and Cultures department. Currently working on a documentary about brewing beer in Michigan in addition to his work with this project. Fun Fact: He donned scuba gear last semester to shoot underwater scenes for SHARK TANK. www.alan-torres.com
Jessica Lee, Producer: A recent graduate of the University of Michigan's program of Screen Arts and Cultures. Currently living and working in Ann Arbor, MI. She is also working with Walter Lin on lighting for the film.
Micah Vanderhoof, Producer: A graduate of the University of Michigan's program of Screen Arts and Cultures. Currently living and working in Ann Arbor, MI. She is part of a local band, Charlie Slick. Micah works on grants and budgets.
