Written, produced and directed by brothers Douglas and Ralph Brekan, Lighthouse Lane stars Leeann Dearing (Everything Must Go, Redemption) as Dawn Snyder, a mentally estranged college drop out trying to cope with her dreams and hallucinations. Also starring Brent Henderson (Locked in a Room) who plays "waken state" Todd. The film features Leni Ford (Grey's Anatomy, Unusual Suspects) as the overbearing and abusive mother Tess Snyder.
Lighthouse Lane is a violent, austere, art piece that shatter the false pretenses and misconceptions surrounding mental illness. In the tradition of Théâtre de la Cruauté (Theatre of Cruelty) established by the late 19th century French surrealist playwright Antonin Artaud, Lighthouse Lane captures the place between sleep and awake guiding the audience through the dark and absurd recesses of the mentally ill mind.
Lighthouse Lane dares to break cinema conventions dragging the viewer into dark and unsuspecting corners of suburban reality. With the release of Lighthouse Lane, the Brekan brothers hope to introduce art-film goers to their unique form of surrealist montage, Cinema de la Cruaute' (Films of Cruelty).
An official entry in 2010 for the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, Lighthouse Lane was re-edited in 2011 to be released on Blu-ray and DVD in the Fall of 2012.
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
We want to reward the cast and crew (and our backers) with the opportunity to see the film projected theatrically with a gala reception and post-screening Q&A.
There are a few other pre-distribution costs we still need to cover, like a digital print of the film. We also need to cover the cost of renting an upscale multiplex and hosting an after party. These costs are equal to the cost of the digital cinema print (DCP). There are event costs in addition to the theater rental, such as talent transportation (limo) and after-party hospitality. This is going to be a gala event at the Harkins CineCapri at Tempe Marketplace.
We're inviting AZ Republic, Phoenix Magazine, NewTimes, the LA trade publications and local celebrities to attend. So we need cool people like you to fill the seats and make this dream come alive!
HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?
For example, if 38 couples sponsor the Cast and Crew Premiere @ $100 we'd meet our kickstarter goal of $3500 and still have the 37 seats for VIPs, Cast & Crew. Likewise, if just one Executive Producer backer comes forward, we can sell the remaining seats to benefit a local mental health facility. With Kickstarter, the reality of reaching our goal is pretty clear.
