The Mural Project is a multinational social empowerment project, which uses the Arts as a therapeutic enrichment tool. Specifically, the project will focus on organizations which address women's and children’s issues.
We will work with three different organizations to co-create culturally relevant murals, one in each of three different countries: Kenya, Ethiopia and Spain. We will have prepared mural templates to provide structure for each design, but which will also allow opportunity for individual expression within each design. Within each organization, we will collaborate with a specific group of people to co-create a visual concept for each mural.
We have chosen to work with women and children as these are groups most marginalized in economically disadvantaged populations and are statistically most vulnerable to changing economic and environmental circumstances. The purpose of The Mural Project is to create a space of collaboration, empowerment and expression where people can share their stories with the extended community. On a practical level, this project also provides the opportunity to expand and exercise artistic skill.
The goal of The Mural Project is to help facilitate a public art piece which is culturally informative and enduring.
