A feature length documentary about one dance company's struggle to change minds and prove that pole dancing can be artistic.

"They [Jagged] were venturing where no pole dancer had gone before; the challenge of explaining to a whole nation on national TV, that pole dance is not solely a sensual dance form, but also a display of strength, athleticism, and above all an art form!" -- PoleSpin Magazine covering Jagged's appearance on America's Best Dance Crew.

WELCOME

Thanks for visiting the Kickstarter campaign for OFF THE FLOOR: The Rise of Contemporary Pole Dance, a feature-length documentary about the visionary dance company JAGGED. When we first started filming back in November of 2010 we had no idea where this journey would take us. All we knew was these were incredible dancers with a story that deserved to be told.

As we got to know the members of Jagged, we quickly realized this was not a film about pole dancing, but about passionate, driven young women struggling to do what they love.

We have been blessed to witness (with cameras in hand!) their mission to bring contemporary pole dance, a fusion of modern dance and pole techniques, to the mainstream. Whether rehearsing a new piece until 4:30am, loading their monstrous 5-pole set into theater venues, or gracefully accepting defeat on national television, the ladies of Jagged never cease to amaze us.

We 100% believe they will amaze you too, and that’s why we are asking for your support. You have the power to get this film to the finish line!

Together, we can make sure audiences everywhere have a chance to see the story of JAGGED and how they are taking pole dance to new heights.

THE PITCH

OFF THE FLOOR: The Rise of Contemporary Pole Dance is the story of JAGGED, a contemporary pole dance company founded in Los Angeles, California. By combining pole work with traditional dance techniques, Jagged challenges audiences to shed their preconceived notions of pole dance and embrace the artistic potential of this emerging art form. Lead by the innovative Jessica Anderson-Gwin and tenacious Sarah Mann, the troop evolves from a ragtag group of novices to aerial artists in little under a year. From the trials and tribulations of self-producing full-length dance shows on a shoe-string budget, to the exhilaration of getting onto national television, the girls of Jagged never cease to be anything but strong, graceful, and visionary. Join them as they elevate pole dance Off The Floor.

THE PLAN

As experienced filmmakers, we’ve been able to make a compelling and heartfelt documentary that will inspire and touch viewers. Our plan is to showcase the finished film at festivals and through that find wider distribution either through a traditional theatrical release or on television. We have the industry connections to make this happen, but first we have to finish the film. That's where you come in.

Your pledges will fund the final crucial stages of the project we simply cannot do on our own including:

  • Shooting an Opening Title Sequence - People will walk into this film with a lot of prejudice about what pole dancing is and we want to show them up front Jagged's unique artistic style.  We have already lined up key-crew for the shoot, including our talented cinematographer Brandon Alperin who has graciously offered to shoot it on his RED Epic, but still need to raise money for equipment, stage rental, etc.
  • Color Correction
  • Sound Design/Mixing
  • Musical Score for the Film

Above all our goal with this project is for audiences to experience contemporary pole dance the way we have, but we need your help to make that happen. Please check out our rewards, make a pledge, and share this campaign. This project has been a passion of ours, and we hope it will become a passion of yours too.

Be it a pledge or sharing this page with others, we are so thankful for all of your support. Thank you so much!
