Thanks for writing. We thought of something like that, but we can put this one in the hopper. Thanks for the suggestion! Best wishes, Maureen and Chris

How about "Hearthlands" American roots music from Arhoolie records. Its a hard choice to describe because it covers such a vast amount of diverse cultures and music .Where i come from its described as Traditional music, but i dare say there are a few Einsteins out there who will think of a name.

Chris Strachwitz - Songcatcher

Chris Strachwitz - America's Songcatcher

Here are a few more title suggestions -
"What's an Arhoolie?"
"Arhoolie Who???"
"An unexpected hero of the Blues"

Maureen,
'Rhythm & Roots" is the only one that should be a finalist. I suggest adding "American", hence, "American Rhythm and Roots, The Legacy of Chris Stracwitz and Arhoolie Records"
I think that none of the others convey the significance of Chris Stracwitz' enormous body of work or yours on this very important documentary.. John H..

Hi, Rebecca,
We are counting up the donations we have received since we got the match. We'll be posting the total when we get it. Thanks so much! Maureen
Creator Rebecca Kidd on June 14, 2012
Is there a way to see on Kickstarter how close you are getting to making the $5,000 challenge? And just to confirm, Kickstarter pledges will go toward the match, not just donations directly to the San Francisco Film Society?
Creator John Harms on June 6, 2012
Maureen,
I'm pleased that you are open to changing the title -- I feel that the working title just does not convey the significance of Chris's lifelong work. ( My first reaction, when I heard it, was that it was either a film for children or Arhoolie had created a children's music label)
So, putting my money where my mouth is (or in this case, putting my mouth where my money is) I'm officially entering the new name contest and here are a couple of immediate thoughts:
Keep Arhoolie in the title because more people will recognize that name than will recognize "Chris Strachwitz"
Phrases like "boogie" and "real down home" don't convey the breadth of musical styles in Arhoolie's catalog.
My first entries are:
"Arhoolie, a Record of American Roots"
"Arhoolie, a Record of American Music"
"Arhoolie, America's Record Store"
"Arhoolie, 50 Years of America's Music"
Arhoolie, Recording the Music of America"
Chris Strachwitz, Hero of American Music"
Chris Strachwitz, The Record Man of American Music
I'll keep working on this -- I'm intrigued because I want everyone to want to see this movie!

I like the No Mouse Music title, and way better than the other options you've listed. Just add Chris's name and Arhoolie in a subtitle and you've got it. Though a long time aficionado of all things Arhoolie, "mouse music" hasn't been part of my vocabulary and it doesn't put me off a bit; in fact, hearing Chris on the video clip just makes it fit perfectly. . . .
I've added a link (due to publish on Friday 6/8) to your Kickstarter page on my blog: http://magicjukebox.blogspot.com.
Good luck. . . .

Congratulations Maureen & Chris!!
And to prove just how small the world is: yesterday I met a fellow backer while on a short trip to Ashland, Oregon. I popped into the local record store and started chatting with the owner. Our conversation quickly went from blues to Arhoolie re-releases on vinyl to your project!
