C.A.P.E. Theater, an educational community theater, would like to produce "Zombies from the Beyond" by James Valcq in September 2012
The C.A.P.E. (Craft, Appreciation, Performance, Education) Theater is a small not-for-profit group whose focus is to provide a well-rounded education to the community of Glynn County and its surrounding areas in theater performance, appreciation and craft. Through design, creation and performance, we offer a healthy environment for people to experience theater and a place to offer their gifts to the community.
In past seasons, we have produced some very small, minimalistic musicals, but haven't been financially able to do a full, fun musical in the style it should be performed. With help from Kickstarter supporters, we want to produce "Zombies from the Beyond" by James Valzq in September 2012. Zombies was an off-Broadway hit as a homage to the 1950 Sci-Fi movies that we love! The show takes place in Wisconsin in the 50's (who doesn't love that as a setting) and involves a female alien here to collect men for her planet. There is even a tap-dancing sandwich delivery guy!
This has been a dream of the director/choreographer over the past few years and it would allow the theater group to stretch its efforts and grow into new areas of experiences. It has been tentatively cast, with 50% of the cast new to the theater, which is what the group always strives for in order to share the fun of performing arts with new people. We have a performance location. We have a music director and a tentative agreement with local musicians. But we can't move forward without funding.
Local funding has been unavailable due to recent economic hits and the fact the local businesses have withdrawn their financial support in most arenas currently. The theater does have in-kind sponsors who have been very generous with donating and discounting services and materials, which is why our donation request level remains reasonable and attainable. The monies will be dedicated to obtaining the score, building the set, creating and filming the show opening in the 1950 Sci-Fi style, costumes, posters and props. We have the royalties covered and the cost of renting the performance space.
Thank you for your consideration and supporting local arts.
